I bought one off of ebay last year for $30. They work pretty well, buy I like to do a run at the track and compare the two.
I'm confused by your post. Are you saying you have compared the g-tech to track times or you would like to?? If you have compared the to, how did the g-tech do? How does the indicated speed on the g-tech compare to your actual speed?
I'd like to compare them at the track, I forgot the 'd in my first post. The g-tech is suppose to be acurate to a tenth but the mph is 1-2 mph high. It is also a little difficult to get a good time on the street due to serious traction problems.
Cool. I wanted to get one back when they were $150+, then they dropped to $99 and you could find them on ebay for $45. Do you get some kind of cut or something? Measures: - 0 to 60 mph time - 1/4 mile elapsed time (E.T.) - 1/4 mile trap speed - Instantaneous lateral acceleration (G s) - Sustained lateral acceleration (G s) - 60 mph braking distance - Instantaneous braking Gs - Sustained braking Gs - Horsepower
.......... It took them a couple of days to send me a confirmation email that the item was shipped but for $34 what the heck. And no I have no connection to the surplus computers web site, I was just sent the link by a friend and I passed it on. regards
Geeez, do I feel shafted. I bought one when they first came out for about $250. As far as accuracy, I took it to the track once and made 3 passes. The Gtech pro consistantly measured .05-.06 slower than the time slips. The only other test I can offer is from some passes on a country road. The Gtech numbers were just a hair slower than the time slips in the console, but very close. It's really a pretty amazing tool for $35. Heck of a lot better than what I paid. ou:
Does anyone know where to get a good deal on the RR version (road racer). My B in Law is into road racing and is looking for a deal. They are on ebay for about 280 or 290 but he's looking to get one cheaper than that. Thanks Harvey
G-Tech-- Well I got it, however I found out the cigarette lighter element doesn't work. So I'll probably have to sell it. $40.00 takes it, and I'll pay the shipping--let me know if your interested!! Sam
Sam, I had the same issue when I bought my G-tech. Thats when I found that my cigarette lighter didn't work. ou: Took about 15 minutes to track down a little wiring problem for the lighter, then it worked fine. :TU: My experience has been the same as stated above. The G-tech is very consistent, but always reads a tad slow. It's great for tuning your car because of it's consistency. You can tell what your adjustments are doing MUCH better than judging by "the seat of your pants". I actually used mine at the track in 3 different cars while racing. (to eliminate the "street traction" differential) In every case, it still read just a little slower than my time slips (less than tenth off though, more like a few hundreths) I wouldn't give mine up for nothing. :beer
Autometer now offers a 'gauge" that does nearly if not all of the same functions as the G-Tech Pro. But the AM unit mounts in a 2-1/16" gauge pod and comes in Phantom (white) or Cobalt. Nothing to stick to the windshield or plug into the lighter. How cool would that be mounted on the a-pillar?
