Hello all, thanks to whoever for a great website. My wife talks loads to me but all she gets back is grunts since I found it. Quick question, I have a 350 engine and box coming soon, what sort of HP and torque is it. I dont know what car it's out of, so a ballpark figure is ok. I also need to know what the normal diff ratio is for street use, with an occasional race.
    Thanks
    Andy

A lot of variants were made. The most potent was the 1970 SP which was 315 hp and I recall 440 ft ibs on the torque. A standard gear used with the 4 barrel 350 was an 8.2 inch, 10 bolt with a 3.23 ratio.

OK Jim, thanks. I realise not knowing what car it came out of is a pain, but I gotta start thinking of how to fit it in the new project, and what needs to be got to do that.

Give us the numbers off the engine and we can tell you how it came stock. It could of course have been changed along the way. That engine was made for a long time. I recall say about 1968 to 1980. Very easy to find and cheap to buy over here.

The 1970 SP engine is the most difficult to find. Also remember that in 1972 the US went from the gross rating system to SAE so you have to adjust for that to compare the ratings head to head.

Thanks Jim, but I dont have it yet. My mate is just pulling it out of his car, which will take him a few days, and you've hit the nail on the head when you say common over there. Over here they are not common, so I want to do the research beforehand. He has the factory manual for it, and he runs 3.77 with a Jag rear, but I want to install it in a van. Should surprise a few people.
As soon as I know more I'll post. Buick Sky???? rings a bell

Welcome to the board Andy! Does Skylark ring a bell?? Sounds like thats what its outta. Buick in a van?!?! Awesome, and a good engine to use, the Buick 350 is good at low end torque engine so it should do well in a van. What year is your van? Got a few pics of the beast? Sounds like a bitchin project!
