Re: Greatings from Germany Maybe a bit late but welcome aboard Christian! Nice skylark you got there! Maybe we meet each other at a car show around munich someday! Greetings from Altoetting
Re: Greatings from Germany Hi Erik, yeah, i still have the car, but i sold the Engine, because i got a very very good price for it. So it's sitting around without an engine and i am trying to get a good 430 or 455 right now, but they are hard to come by. Have even thought of going with a Caddi 472 or 500.
Re: Greatings from Germany well ... the car is sooo close, but i still can't have a look at it. It will arrive on Saturday, but unfortunately I'll help a friend move, so I can't let him down. But my dealer won't be all day in the garage and it takes to long to get over there once we are done moving his stuff. On Sunday nobody is in the shop, the whole next week I need to travel to Belgium, the next weekend I'll be in Vienna / Austria ... so my next chance is about 1 1/2 weeks away :ball: Sometimes Murphy is a b**** anyway, all my ordered parts already arrived from the US. Ordered in total about 4 boxes from opgi ... can't wait to get my hands on the car, also I won't be able to drive it since the weather is getting worse by the day... next steps will be getting it through inspection, a historic plate and insurance. and then there is still the question which wheels to buy, since this is quiet difficult if I don't want to risk my historic plate and not spending 2 or 3k in wheels. I got the original ones, but they are so slim...
Re: Greatings from Germany Hmm...tires and wheels...yes, they could be a problem. What will the TUV let you do? Knowing how those cars handle in stock form, the original size tires would only be safe for about 120 km/h, but not for extended periods. They do not corner well, but then again the suspension was pretty sloppy to begin with. So there will be plenty of modifications before you can expect the car to be 100% roadworthy on the Autobahn. Looks like a pretty car!
Re: Greatings from Germany Well I wouldn't shove a Caddy 472 or 500 in, the modifications to make one fit are extensive and who knows what the TUV would say. I would suggest looking for a wrecked car with a blown or worn out engine and rebuilding the engine; it's probably the cheapest alternative and a lot easier to do than a Mercedes engine is. Any Buick big-block from 1967 to 1976 will pretty much bolt right in. there has to be one left over there...
Oops, sorry guys, i didn't look at this thread. That 430 seems to be interesting. If Erik and Rob tell me that John knows what he is doing i can trust you. It all depends on the price though.
now it's done ... he is home in my garage. took him home yesterday, all complete with a full tech inspection, redone drum brakes and history plates :bglasses: now the journey of fixing stuff will start. First step will be the driver side door. For some reason I can't open it from outside. My mechanic said something from a broken retention spring somewhere inside ... Beside that, new wheels are necessary. something in 15" or 16" ... maybe different width front and back, need to check what fits first :bglasses: and there is already a list of other stuff of course: new weatherstripping for the doors and trunk (driver side is basically gone) new locks for doors and ignition (keys don't match and are not compete) dashboard is loose on driver side (is it difficult to remove it completely refurbish some spots once I'm on it?) to be continued *g regards Chris
