grille colors

    painting my 72 GS grille. Where do I find dark argent and silver argent???My local paint supplier need a code or more info. Thanks. Ken

    The silver is Plasti-Kote 8115. This is a Cdn. colour, he should be able to get the US colour.

    I just bought Eastwoods Argent silver and charcoal gray wheel paints I will be trying on my 71 grill. Maybe worth a try as they are lacquers which are best for plastics.

    Dave; Wont lacquer eat plastic.I have had lacquer craze plastic when painted. Ken

    Shouldn't hurt it as that's what the factory most likely used. Also--you don't need a dark argent for the 72 GS grille--just dull aluminum and your choice of black.

    I you are using a lacquer just go with some initial light coats.

    Krylon Dull Aluminum (enamel) does well also for the silver portions

    Finally, the Eastwood wheel paints will likely have more sheen(gloss) to them vs the dull aluminum and other paints. The silver used on these grilles didn't have much gloss to it.

    the dupli-color paint codes that i used -
    CC9091 charcoal pearl
    FM8115 silver
    for the semi-gloss black, i have used both tremclad and carquest

    I test paint the back of the grille first to see if paints are compatable.
