I purchaced a GS air cleaner from a fellow member and was told it was in rough shape. I just got done sand blasting it and ROUGH if what it is. Has anybody used filler on the air cleaner top. It is very pitted and that is going to be one of the first places people look at when you open your hood, so I would like it to look as good as possible. Or any other ideas on how to fill/fix the pitting would be welcomed.
That is what I am thinking to do. The thing is the top piece is very contured and sanding it smoth might be a lot of work. I am thinking of using skimmer to fill. If somebody has better idea please let me know
Can't you just use a "standard" lid from a standard (non-GS) air cleaner? Must have been a million of those stamped out in the day.
use a weld bond type material - its much stronger - will withstand the heat (will even work on manifolds) - will come out smoother - only a little harder to sand - just put it on in really thin coats.
The stock lid off my 430 air cleaner fit the GS unit perfect.I have 2 extra if youd like to buy one of mine instead of fixing yours.
The lid with the sticker on it has a small flat area on the back edge from falling off the fender. the other is near perfect. Make me an offer.
The Parts Place sells a nice repro chrome lid (not the Chevy style) you can use on the ram air cleaner - that is what I have on mine.
No Chrome for me. Trying to get as close as I can to what a true GS350 would have been. It's costly$$$$$$
If you cleaner base is poor...you may be able to use another one, stock 4 bbl, to make the GS air cleaner. Agree, replacing the lid is the way to go. Keep the GS air cleaner in the trunk and save it for shows.....use a 360 open element air cleaner for daily driving.
