The seal plates on my 72 GS are different shades, probably because each seal plate came from a different car. If I wanted to refinish the seal plates, what colour should they be?

Apparently the color of the plastic material varied by batch. Then some that were exposed to more sunlight will turn lighter.
Paint doesn't really look right on them, as they were never painted. What I do with mine is prep them with a green scuff pad with a sanding gel/paste, then spray them with an R-M product, DS 30 2K transparent sealer. It sticks like crazy to rigid plastics, and dries to a satin sheen. It actually will bring back some of the natural black color.
You could also spray them with a rigid plastic adhesion promoter, and then use a satin clear.
In either of these products, a person could tint them with a small amount of black to add just a little color.
