I have never been a fan of wheels for a 70-72 GS other than the stocker type setup. That is until I saw a friend's 70 Chevelle with 9.5 fronts and 11.5 rear Torque-Thrust 2's.The look is excellent. He thinks they won't fit the GS wheelwells without interference. He invited me over to his place to try them on however. The only non-stock suspension pieces on his 502 Chevelle are B body spindles and tubular arms with 4 wheel discs.Just eyeballing everything the GS wheelwells look just as big if not moreso. His wheel size is 17 inch with rear tires no more than 26" tall. Anyone tried such extreme widths?

You would need about 5" of backspacing on the front ones and 6.25" to 6.5" on the back ones to fit with a wide tire like a 325/50R15 that is 12" wide. That's what I have on my car on a 15x10 rim with just over 5.5" backspacing.

    Thanks Phil,
I have been reading your posts re the 10"by 15" rear wheels.Appreciate your advice. If nobody has done a comparison between the Chevelle and GS wheel housings (70-72) then I will let everyone know the results of trying out these big wheels and tires as soon as I get a chance. Rod

    Im in a similar situation....

I cant wait to see what you find. I never imagined the 17 inch wheel would fit 325 in the Buick wheel well.... Im anxious to hear the outcome, I was considering 16's if they would fit.
