In the display area if there is an award for "Roughest Thing Running" then I might be a contender!

Been a long time since I have been to the nationals but I've been thinking about it. Why not have peer or spectator judging for some classes? For some its more about showing off your car then taking home trophies. Just a thought.

There will be some homemade trophies given out for the display area by 2 of the big sponsors for this and the car show. A variety of trophies for different things that appeal to them.

Many years ago (maybe it was back in the 90s) the GS Nats car show had peer judging. I'll never forget seeing a certain person literally crying tears because he got second place in the peer-judged car show. "This peer judging is crap! I spent $100k getting my car restored and I got beat by another guy who has more friends in the club! All this show proves is who has more friends and not who has the best car!" He was really upset because he didn't get the $10 plaque for 1st place and was making a scene about it. I'm not sure if it was a coincidce or not but a few years later the peer-judging/voting ended.

I personally like peer judging, also known as a "popular vote" car show. If you win an award, it just means that people like your car, not that it's the best. And if you don't get an aware you don't have to feel like you were slighted because it wasn't a judged show.

This is a great idea. I am going to try to figure out the best way to do this as an extra and added bonus. I like this. Thanks.

Peer judging is not a good idea IMO, it gives the impression just as described above. If people don’t care about competing they can just be a display car, and be happy but many of us like the competition, and like to have our cars judged on a level, impartial playing field.

John, What day would this apply to? Would it be specific for the Top 25 show field? Or encompass Top 25 and Concourse? Or would this be for a different day/show?

Last year was my first time to the Nationals, so unfamiliar with everything. The Top 25 and Concourse were the same day, so you enter one or the other. Guessing that is Friday.

Would what you mention above for the extra trophies, would that be a separate show on Thursday for Everyone to enter/park in show field? Or something else?

    Thanks!

Another idea would be to add another survivor class for people who have original cars with born with drive trains, but have updated the paint and possibly some interior. I’m sure that would definitely get the attendance up. Survivor class 2

I was thinking about that too Frank. A survivor w/mods class of sorts. Could be paint, performance, rebuilt (i.e. painted) engine, etc. Maybe that's what the regular show class is for and we need to get the car count up but would be a neat class.

I wouldn’t get too too crazy with upgrades, other than cosmetics . With Performance upgrade, it could turn into a day two class of survivor, which would be pretty cool also.

The extra awards are gonna be designated to be given out by the sponsors themselves. It would be for cars that they suit best personally and hopefully for the display section as well. I will put some other stuff together for the peer judging but we are not taking away from the concourse or the top 25 set in place already. Just trying to add things to thr overall event.

This was brought up last year to Sid. I believe he is working on that since alot of cars had no choice but to get repaired to still be used. I will update once he finalizes. I'm sure he reads the comments and suggestions as well.

That’s an easy award to win, just slip in KB C107 and the Mickey Thompson had back on.

I could get behind a class that was for cars that were driven there and then raced. I'm thinking a heads up class but each car would get some sort of credit based on the mileage driven to the event.. for every hundred miles driven, subtract a tenth from the ET? Also gotta have some formula for final drive ratio- the higher it spins at 75 mph the more ET credit..

Great discussion, As a previous vendor I like the grass areas for vending and securing your tent.

“Roughest thing running” award is for the worst condition vehicle that still legally runs and drives.
