Looks like the admirers are going to need some darker sunglasses to avoid searing their retinas from now on! Nice job Mark! How are things going up at Burns & Mac? Later, Randy

Burns and Mac is good. I am busy now. I missed the GS Nationals due to work. I was a little bummed about that.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the car. I was very excited to get the car painted the correct color. There is no doubt that it did not look right before it was painted. It was a good paint job and the body lines were straight but the color was really off.

Thanks to Mark Reeves and Then and Now the car is the way it was orginally and should have been when it was restored the first time.

I try to drive it some. I have taken it to a couple local events this summer. The weather has been very unpredictable this summer in our area and I don't want to get caught in a bad storm so most of the time it has been sitting in the garage.

    Mark,

It looks great! Those guys at Mark's shop sure know how to make these cars look good, don't they? Congrats! :TU:

Is there going to be an Apollo White car next to it anytime soon? :3gears:

One can only dream on that. I think I missed my opportunity at this years Russo and Steel AZ auction. I think for now it will have to be one in the garage for me. It would be sweet to have one.

I also have a few more pics of misc brochures, tags and bill of sale. I assume the build sheet is still somewhere in the car if it hasn't rotted by now. Mike Trom did an excellent job on the repro window sticker. The black paint surfaces have taken a beaten over the years but the white exterior paint and the interior has held up very well. I try to park close to other cars with older paint or in the shade to camoflague the flaws...lol. I live for cloudy skys on car cruise day. I would like to get the hood and the rear spoiler redone sometime but I am afraid the new paint would clash with the old. I guess I am more critical of the flaws since I know where all of them are and most people either don't notice or are classy enough not to point them out most of the time. Marks X is awesome. If I ever have to have a complete repaint I hope mine turns out as nice as his.

Did your Dad order this car or just buy it off the lot?
If your Dad ordered it what were the circumstances and how did he know to order a GSX?
    Fill us in
    Thanks for posting pics

He ordered it from the local Buick dealership. The owner of the dealership was good friends with my Grandfather and his oldest son and my Dad were buddies. As far as I know he had seen a Saturn Yellow 1970 GSX pass through town and after reading some magazine advertisements along with a few brochures he had seen at the dealership he wanted one. Dad wasn't big on yellow but loved white with black. My Grandfather had always owned Buicks of some kind so it wasn't a hard sell for him. Besides everyone else had Roadrunners, Cuda's, Camaros, ect. Dad almost cancelled the order several times because it took many months to get it delivered......I think he waited almost 3-5 months before it was delivered in Febuary of '71. I was told by a couple of Buick enthusiast that GM workers were on strike durning the timeframe he ordered it and that delayed alot of deliveries. Or was it a suppliers strike?? Anyway he waited alot longer than he thought he would have to since a Mach 1 he ordered a year eariler came in alot sooner when he ordered it from the Ford dealer across town. When the GSX came it was on the bottom of the hauler and a car above it had leaked something out and had stained the paint on the hood around the center toward the hood scoops. That went over well.....after months of waiting he gets to see the car for the first time and it had a paint tumor on the hood. The black stripes and I believe the white and red center stripe was also repainted later that week. I will have to ask Dad for sure but I think his GSX was 1 of maybe 3 or 4 sold in the area and the only one sold at Mr. Beards dealership. Vicky Jo Irvin from Russell Springs, KY also ordered her Platinum Mist '71 GSX from a dealer the next county over where she lived. Her car was in a few mags years ago but I haven't seen it in a long time. It came with a black vinyl top and Oldsmobile wheels. Another guy not far away from here owned a '70 Saturn Yellow GSX Stage 1 but he let it rot to a rusty hull in his yard. He would never sell it but he also would never attempt to prevent its horrible fate either. Go Figgure. Obviously not an enthusiast of classic cars. Our town has always been small but fortunately in the '60s and '70s Liberty had a Dodge, Ford, Buick, and Chevy dealership that sold alot of cars in the county and out. Dad almost didn't get to order the GSX at all because he was using the insurance money he got from wrecking his first car...a white and black striped '70 Mach 1. My Grandfather was dead set against a V8 anything much less a big block car but since the Buick was a bigger more safer car in theory and alot of begging he caved in and let Dad order the GSX. He wouldn't let him get the Stage 1 option though. That would have been sweet! The car was a daily driver for him the 2 years or so then he garaged it and only started driving it on sunny weekends. The gas shortage of the mid '70s also helped in keeping it in the garage too. My Grandfather owned a gas station and Dad worked for him so when it snowed he always had a ride so he could keep the GSX away from road salt. I would like to do some touching up on the hood, roof, rear spoiler and lower quarters but it really only needs it in small sections and since the new paint wouldn't match the old paint I am just going to try to blind people with the shine of many coats of wax when it's sunny and choose overcast days to go crusing. I like to drive it atleast 500-600 miles a year and I don't see spending alot of $$$$$ making it showroom fresh when it is in excellent shape for a car going on 40 years old. If I drive it i'm gonna get paint chips and scratches....I am glad that white hides most of it. It's a survivor car and not a museum car but thats cool with me. Well I hope you liked hearing some of the background on the car. I hope to goto the GSX Reunion this year but it's too far away to make plans yet but I may get to swing by BG durning the Nationals in May if the weather cooperates. Maybe I will get to meet some of you guys there and we can exchange some pics and history. BTW...the monthly Somernites Cruise in Somerset KY will be starting the 24th this month. I will be taking the GSX there if the weather is nice......not may Buicks are ever there...out of 800-1200 cars that usually show up maybe a couple of GN and a Skylark might show up but that is usually it.
