    Hey Guy's and gal's ,
I am restoring a 1970 GSX for a longtime friend of mine and thought I might get a few tips on where to locate some hard to find items. Seems to be a wealth of knowledge around here, so if you don't mind I may have a few questions from time to time. I personally am a Pontiac guy, but my friend has been a Buick guy for a long time and he is o.k. He has had the car for thirty years, but it was stolen about 7 years ago and we got it back new yaer's eve 08'. It was minus the numbers macthing motor and tranny, and the front clip. I could use a line on where to get a good front bumper. I am doing a complete frame off and going new with most parts.

The body has been completely sandblasting inside and out and is on a rotissiere getting new quarters, a few floor pans etc. The frame has been sandblasted and powder coated. The entire suspension system has been redone, I have the motor and trans ready to put into the chassis this weekend, All the seats have been redone, and all interior parts ordered. I hope to have the body work and paint complete to mount body this summer. It is a fun but VERY expensive project as many of you know. Hope to post some pic's soon,,,,,Dave :beers2:

We picked up a 1970 455 engine and tranny and I have converted it to a Stage 1 by opening up all oil passages in the block to 5/8" and also a 5/8" pickup tube, drilled and tapped front oil galley plugs. Installed brass freeze plugs. Opened up the valves to stainless Stage 1 with springs and hardened seats from TA Performance, Stage 1 cam with a numbers matching 800 cfm quadrejet from Musclecarbs in California. I did add an edlebrock aluminum intake, but milled off all the lettering and painted it red for the stealth look. The block was bored .30 and honed to match pistons, align honed, deck squared to mains, and heads surfaced. Rods resized with ARP rod bolts. I have used ARP bolts on the entire engine. Crank made .10-.10 with clevite bearings throughout, moly rings and a double roller timing chain. All brackets and exhaust have been powder coated. Relaced points with ignitor series ignition with a flame thrower coil. I am sure I missed a few things, but willl add more later...Dave

Because the original paint is gone... engine/trans gone.... other bits gone... I like your approach just fine. Nothing wrong with intake change and powder coating etc. Note however that most will prefer you note the car has a different level of restoration than expected. IOW some will be expecting the original tires and hose clamps :) Disclosing the changes is the best approach IMO.

Very much looking forward to pics and story.

Hey Stampy, it had better run decent or I may be in trouble:laugh: And GNand GNS...it is noted with the registry that the engine an tranny are different and I do not know of many resto's where the original paint is kept, or even in that good of conditon...we are using stock size tires and rims, all orignal corbin clamps and tower clamps....by looking at the engine all but the hard core Buick fan may notice a subtle difference, but it looks bone stock down to the vacuum tree, to the stock pcv hose, to the stock prebent fuel lines......the entire frame, suspension, rear end and springs are all powder coated and look awesome..., I have had the dash panel insert vacuum plated and all gauges recalibrated with new needles and lenses. As you said, it is not a numbers matching car anymore, but I would put it up against ANY resto in the country...it is being built to outlast us and be passed on to the grandkids, so I hope it will all come together

The best part about this I think will be the story.

Hey david c77, hello and thanks for the list. I have bought from just about everyone on your list, I try to stay away from opg and year one if I can, not to satiisfied with some of their parts, prices and shipping. GNandGNS, thanks for your input, I am not doing a concourse restoration, but it is going to be a damn nice car. N360LL I have posted an ad on craigslist here locally, but not had any response, a guy called MR.BUICK .COM whom I orderd an accelerator bracket from says he has one, but that is the only one besides the Bumper boyz in California.
