Looking through some old pictures ,I ran across this picture of the day I picked up my new 1970 GSX Stage 1 (numbers matching) from the original owner (Father Aldo Orso Manzonita) on Oct 31st 1990 in Tillamook Oregon for $7,000. Eric
He preserved this X oh so well. What an interesting prior owner. Is he still around and do you ever communicate with him?
Very cool! When he did a burnout it was like ...holy smokes!!! I feel like I was ripped off now because I paid $8,250 in 1990 for mine. ou: Paul
That's cool. The Priest from my HS still has his 73 SD Formula 4spd. He has been racing Ponchos since the late 60's.
He died in 1996. But saw the car and drove it again in 1995 after partial restoration was completed .
The second picture was taken in 2006, after total restoration, in case you thought both pictures were from 1990. Eric
I know you "can't take it with you", but you have to wonder if the The Big Man upstairs gave the Father some Divine Inspiration? While I like the musician Marc Cohn (he sings "Walking in Memphis"), I always cringe when I hear his song "If their's a God in Heaven(, He drives a silver Thunderbird)" about his Grandfather's favorite car. When I hear the song, I picture a white 'X' in its place and a great big smile on the driver's face...
Eric: I remember Father Aldo saying he traded in a 69 GS400 for the GSX. I have some old photos of your car down at Ocean Shores during one our local meets. Your car is to the right. Photo taken around 1984 or so. Great memories!
Hay Dave, That is so cool to see that picture. If you have any others I would love to see them. Thanks for taking the time to post this picture. Eric :3gears:
Who's are the other two GSX's. (Left and Middle?) Could one of them be yours and the other one Lee Bacon's? Just making an educated guess here! Are they Stage 1's, 4 speed, automatic ,air cars? Eric
Here's one more picture from 1988 that an elderly fellow at the 2007 Buick Nationals in Bellevue ,Washington handed me of the GSX Stage 1 from a get together two years before I met Father Aldo and went on tho make the purchase on Oct. 31st 1990. You can see Aldo's head from behind on the other side of the car.
That picture was taken at Portland International Racerway. I need to get that snapshot back to its original owner. So if he shows up at this years 2009 Pulallup Buick show in June, if I can remember who he is I'll give it back to him.
Eric, Just revisited this post. Yes, the other two GSX's are Lee Bacons and mine. Taken at the Ocean Shores meet back in the mid 80's. Still trying to figure a way to go to the GSX reunion. Its well over 2,000 miles each way, but seeing that many of those cars in one spot will be priceless! Gotta put our thinking caps on and make this thing happen.
Eric, Do you know if any of the other guys there are coming? It might be a change to car pool or at least caravan? I know a couple guys were thinking about going. Mark
