I just bougth a 71 GS Grill for $130. It is in great shape! Just needs Bead Blasted two studs reattached and Paint. Not to shabby huh?! Anyone know where to get the correct paint for this thing? -Jon
I saw those auctions. Who ever listed didn't mention Buick in the title so I think a lot of people missed it. Good score though.
Yeah, I was just watching them for grins to see what they would go for, and noone was looking at them, so I bid and won. Couldn't believe it since I have seen other 71 GS Grills go for thousands! I picked it up since it was local, and it was in even better shape than I thought. -Jon
Congrats Nice to hear someone catching a break once in a while! :TU: Now be carefull with it! ou: What's a grill weigh? The current value of gold is around $345. OK, so probably not quite there, but getting close! :eek2: Are you planning to paint it to return it to stock??
Yeah, I am gonna bead blast it gently... and then restore it with some resin and other plastic agents. I have soem really good pics of a NOS one to go by for the piant. It will look new when I am done with it. I have done a couple others before and got very good results. THose Dremel tool sare very handy in these cases.
Grill Pics Here is a thread with some great grill pics posted by Brad Conley. I know you said you have some, but a few more for reference wouldn't hurt!
It say Oven Cleaner??? Really?? I woudl be very hesitant to use a chemical stripper especially putting it in a plastic bag where I couldn't watch it. The close ups for the grill are great though. Thanks
I would use oven cleaner long before I would bead blast. Oven cleaner will not hurt the plastic. Try a small spot first to convince yourself. I would be worried about the bead blasting hurting the part. When cleaning always start with the most gentle method first and go to more drastic measures only if you need to.
Believe it or not, Castrol Super Clean straight can clean the paint off of plastic and will not harm it at all.....experiment with a small bottle of it and a piece of painted plastic and see what I mean! HTHYO! :TU:
Oven cleaner will NOT hurt the plastic. However, it won't touch the factory paint. It'll strip all the Pactra metalflake paint off your Ala' Cart models you probably built in the sixties!
I cant believe it.... the oven cleaner is working. I tested a small spot, had dinner, came back out, and wiped the paint right off. I have to say it is nothing short of amazing. Hats off to whomever thought this one up! :beer I need another can, but got half the grill soaking in it right now. Resto pictures to follow..... Thanks yall! -Jon
So heres what a can of oven cleaner and a nylon brush does for a GS grill... Amazing!!! I left if in the bag overnight, and the paint jsut came right off. Glad I didn't beed blast it!
