Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Looking for 2 decals. They would be the early ones from the '80s. Any help appreciated.

    Korrie,
I just found a brand new never used one in a stash of parts. (Just like the one pictured above.)
If you want it you can have it.

As far as reproducing them. The GSCA is owned by Richard. I would advise that you asked him about this before you proceed.

    Korrie,
I know you didn't ask about reproducing them. Just wanted to let other people know that Richard has the rights to that.

Richard said in the GS-Xtra a year or so ago that he was not going to have any more made so he may be willing to let someone else have them made.

He probably won't care, but it would be nice if someone asked him. Just saying.

I found the sticker in a box yesterday while I was cleaning up and remembered this thread. Over the years I got a bunch of them, but they never seemed to make it to any of the cars. If I find some more I will gladly offer one to the cause.............that is after Richard OK's it.

I remember Brad and his Dad wearing Jackets with I believe "Gus" on the back the first day I met them. My dad was with me too, and now their both gone. Oh well.

Now back to Korrie trying to find a second sticker. You know all kids like stickers:D.

I have a friend in the graphics/sign business. I have emailed him to see if he can reproduce these to near originals with correct color and dimension.

If he can, I would need to obtain a new or near new that has the non-faded colors.

I would pay a reasonable "deposit" and return the original within a week, just would need to get the colors matched and 1:1 scan for dimensions. I would cover costs of shipping and insuring both ways. If anyone is interested in helping with a decal, let me know. (PM is best).
And I will let him set pricing, and I'll provide his POC and get out of the way. :)

If anyone wants to tell me what they feel is fair and appropriate pricing, send me a PM and I'll pass that along.

Most importantly, I would not press forward until I have the blessing from Richard Lasseter.

Since these are "reverse" decals, they go on the inside of the glass, I would think you would need to stick the decal on a piece of flat glass to scan for reproduction. So the original would not be returnable in the same condition. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I know Richard. Lives near by, relatively speaking. I can call him and ask.

I called and line was busy. So, I sent an email. If you speak with him before I do, ask also if he will permit Gus the Wildcat to be reproduced without any reference to the GSCA. (in addition to reproducing the exact decal from the pic above.)

It would be nice to have both the old and new version done. If Richard doesn't want to market stuff, that's his choice. It would be great if he could delegate one person to do it, take a cut, it's good advertising.

In order to get the colors, it would not require being put on glass. Only peeling back the backing enough to match the color to the chip chart. And he can put a new backing over the existing backing to keep it clean and secure.

This way the decal will be preserved. But I will make sure he can do this before I ask someone to provide their decal for the process.

If he cannot guarantee the preservation we may have to have someone with a good decal have the colors matched and provide the number and color chart used.

As with and "reproductions" there will be some difference from the original, but I'm a stickler for details, so if I do work on this (with everyone's support/blessing), it will be to reproduce it as faithfully as possible, or I won't do it. :)

First thing is to see if my friend can make it happen, and I'll post back. I just spoke with him and he will let me know in a day or so.

There is no problem copying almost anything in this world. It has to be copyrighted, trademarked or patented. Even if you have filed all the paperwork and registered with our government you still have to sue to collect. No one would sue for a decal. Even if you are first to create a special product you must be the first to register it. In the automotive industry one rarely protects their work because of the expense to litigate, because if you change the part like porting a head and someone else ports it a little different, well you now have your own design. It is ultimately up to a judge. Again that is why people with other governments give the middle finger to the USA when they steal someones protected ideas. Good luck with collecting!

BTW in this case as always within the Buick community you should always ask if the creator has a problem with that! We don't care about the others...lol

I have spoken with Richard Lasseter and he also sent me an email. He has no problem with someone reproducing the decal as long as they contact him first. He does have a copyright. Here is his email message to me:

"Not at all. Ray as long as they call me first about it and realize that it is copyrighted material! Being a current member would give me more confidence in working with them as opposed to someone I never heard of. In the past I had problems with people on these forums doing such things as logos and such that reflected on or were associated with the GSCA that I knew nothing about. Some were really crappy and folks thought I was responsible for them. "

If anyone that is interested will PM me I'll provide the phone number for the GSCA if you need it.
