At least with the Jeeps you were usually going slow enough so that when they did let go, everything stayed inside. But it might be a long tow out of the woods.
Did the tubes look welded anyware? I cant imagine its just a simple swap. Was it posi? What kind of brakes did it have in back. ? I guess it is possible someone thought they were putting a Ford 9 inch in it. I would think the leaf spring pads were different. Also the yolk. No one ever wants to put an older rear end in a car. If it was a real SS would nt it have came with a 12 bolt or at least the bettter 10 bolt. The one with the bigger pinion bearings. Hell that thing dosent have c clips. I suppose maby the axles are beffier so it has stronger axles?
EXCELLENT! So now he's gonna become the master of his realm LOL. If he's gotten this far, he's a long ways away from being a NEWB. That is, if he's doing all the work himself. Probably shoulda used a cut off wheel on that 1/4 panel rather than a sawzall tho.. I think he was holding out on you! So in another 2 years you may see it on the street again; if not, youll see it as a project for sale. Did he ever mention the $$$ thing about it? Next winter is just around the corner and I'm freaking out about what project to tackle next; altho my stuff is all 10 footers LOL... ws
Must have had a lot of underlying problems ? and did I spot a fairmont in the driveway? Not many of those left on the road
It's going to end up being pretty much only the doors, roof, hood, and trunk left. It's getting complete new 1/4s too.... He's a picky guy (obviously) and once he started looking at stuff, he kept finding more. It's things I wouldn't worry about, but this is his dream car and he wants it perfect...it is his first "restoration", but he's going to have a hot rod. He is a retired sheet metal guy, so he's got the skills, just never applied them to a car. The pace he is going I think he'll have it as a roller by fall..... and yes Roy, that is a minty clean Fairmont. Also has a stupid clean square body. He's only a block away, next time I'm over I'll take some pics of the other two "classics" ......
I bought my house 2 years ago... guy right next door has a 71/72 restored Ralley Nova and is restoring a 1969 Chevelle. He's retired so he is always out in the garage. Cannot believe how lucky I was w/ him as a neighbor. Guy across the way has a cammed 88/90 style Corvette and a Mercury Marauder.
Sounds like my production manager, he’s got Vettes, Chevelles and a RARE Olds 442, course they don’t have engines right now so he can’t drive any into work
My neighbor is a gear head too. Been here 30 years now and we are great friends always helping each other with cars trucks tractors and even wheelers. I can’t move because this is a once in a lifetime relationship. He has had every kind of muscle car imaginable and also toys with beamers. He’s always bringing me stuff like Kid cars tools building materials boats you name he’s probably given me one . great friend . I’m always helping him fix things. He built a 65 restomod mustang. I helped him and I was the first to drive it when we finished it. That’s the kind of guy he is.
