    Guys this sucks.....(Update)

:ball: so today me and some frineds were going to go play a game of volleyball at our high school today, my friend mitch has a 89 accord and got his license 2 days ago. He cut a corner too close and on top of that didn't pay attention and steered the wrong way. Then he hit my beautiful 1966 Riviera that my dad had sence 1976 it got hit on the driverside rear fender and rippled up to the door, it is a BIG dent. The bumper is screwed up too. I am sooooo sad, of course he is going to fix it. but my baby is hurt! I am so sad right now, I put all my spare time into that machine! :ball: :ball: anyone know about how much it is going to coast for the body work/ how much time it will take. This sucks school gets out next wensday too....

Hope this makes you feel better

That's horrible! Just be glad it wasn't an SUV!

These pics were my old '66. When I was 19, some jackass in an Opel ran a red light and did this to mine......6 months after I had her painted! :af:

I feel so bad for you....... :ball: your car was so sharp. Can you post a picture of the damage?

Best thing to do to find a price for repair would be to find a local body repair facility that has a good reputation, preferably a bodyshop that specializes in old iron, take the Riv to the shop and have an estimate for repair. Most shops will do an estimate for free. The '66 Riv is one of the most beautiful 60's Buicks ever made. I wish I still had mine. My first ride was a '66 Rivi GS-tuquoise/turquoise buckets & console.

    I can feel your pain

    I can feel your pain.

This happened to me today (hit and run). I only realized I had been hit when I came back home after going to the hardware store.

It's nowhere close to the damage your car has received but I almost passed out when I noticed it. I can't even imagine what you must going through.

All I can say is hang in there. AND take your time finding the right shop to fix it. It's definitely worth it. You'll want as little bondo as possible on that beauty. Especially if you want to keep the car for a while. Perhaps the best thing would be to simply have another quarter welded in place.

Then there is this other guy named ron that is smaller but he is supposed to be good. And belive me a went off cusing and yelling at my frind for several minuites (don't cuss often at all eaither)

How did your friend not see your car? Its twice the size of his. You said he just got his license? How did he pass a driving test? Sorry, seeing your car like that angers me.

All these pics of dented riviera's are starting to scare me...

When you see what guys like Chip Foose and Jesse James can do with a flat sheet of metal, you know anything is possible. However, not many of those guys around. In your case, if you could find a custom shop, somewhere they do chop tops and the like, you'll have a better chance of finding a good welder.

Might not even be that much more expensive if you take into account how much time and effort it will take to beat your quarter back into shape and all the detail work tha'll be involved. Try the Riviera owner's association for the quarter (rivowners.org). If you subscribe to the mailing list on their site, you can ask the members for the parts you need. You might find a cheap donnor car with other parts and options you might want to ad to your yours. You may be able to even just get a quarter.

Just my opinion (as painter), that damaged quarter (door too) can be straightened by any body man worth his salt, with no holes drilled and only a skim coat of filler here & there. The beauty of the old cars vs. todays is the thickness of the sheet metal. The heavier gage steel used back then doesn't stretch nearly as much as they do now when struck. That and the fact that someone with the right tools should be able to get behind this damage from both the back seat and trunk...you should be fine without having to go through the pain of replacing the entire quarter panel. Done right you should never be able to tell that anything happened and the work should last for many years.

Of course close inspection is the only way to know for sure, but this is my $0.02 worth from seeing the pictures.

Don't give up hope...your Riv will be right as rain again!

Serge, your situation pains me too. Within three days of finishing two months worth of body & paint work on my Wildcat a similar thing happened to me. I suppose owning a trailer queen would prevent such a thing, but we gots to drive 'em and take our lumps (and chips, and dents, and...and...).

Doesn't make it hurt any less though, does it? Glad the bumper seems ok.

Both of you have gorgeous cars.

Try Wildcat1562 (Greg). He goes to alot of salvage yards and I bet he could find you a restorable chrome trim piece. Wildcat1562 :TU:

I am also looking for the possibility of a rear quarter pannel, if anyone has one?

I probably have a good piece of wheel well trim, if no one else comes through. I'll have to search the stockpile, so I won't know till this weekend.

How large a chunk of quarter panel do you really want? From where to where?
