after unloading the racecar this morning from racing last night some smoke started coming from under the hood scoop. before i could get the hood off the foam on the pan and the glass hood was burning. it blistered the paint and burned some of the glass on the underside of the hood  i was so pi$$ed but it could have been worse. the car started up and i drove it in the garage so i dont think there is any more damage.

on a good note the car ran good yesterday with a best et of 10.57 with a 1.39 60 ft.

    :ball: dang Doug......
glad that it wasnt any worse
any clue as to what went haywire?
Tom Jenkins had a carb fire today at US41 at the end of a run.
His wife said it wasnt to bad once he got out of the thing and put it out.
She said from the rear she could see nothing but flames coming out of his cowl hood, up and over the windshield and roof :eek2:

Hope you get the Painekiller fixed up soon.

Doug, holy sh*t! It looked like you had some major flame there. What did it take to put it out? Great news on the new best time! the air was in your favor last nite. Did "dad" take the Hawk out? Randy

I know its drag racing but wonder if it would hurt to put a thin layer of aluminum sheet onthe under side of the hood. It should be able to dissipate the heat long enough to get the hood open / keep the glass from catching fire. Still might bubble the paint but glass burns so quick.

Painekiller is up and running just has a little damage to the hood and scoop. i had a back fire through the carb and it must have ignited the foam. :af:

    no real major damage.

Randy flames were just starting to come out the scoop. its amazing how fast you can get out of the car when you see smoke :Dou: i just flipped the hood into the neighbors grass and threw a couple wet towels and doused it with the garden hose, i grabbed the air pan with bare hands while the foam was still burning and didnt even get burned(cat like reflexes) you dont think about it at the time but afterwardyou do and wonder how you didnt get burned. the air was pretty good 1800ft but the bite was excellent a 1.39 60 ft is the best the cars ever done. the photographer took a pic of Dad and i launching together, i hope it turns out good. :3gears: Dad took Scat. ill give ya a call later.

i thought the same thing with the alum under the hood. i have access to sign blanks that would work. :TU: you're not kidding about it burning quick. it was just a matter of seconds.

Yep, I don't think the aluminum would hurt your times at all but could save you mucho bucks. Glass does burn so quick. Thinking back to the Dale JR fire in that Vette. Only took a few sec and the whole car was a fire ball. Open flames n fiberglass just don't mix.

Like Beavis would say "Fire, Fire, Fire"
