Shawn Carlin (Carhell) got to test his bbb regal friday to get some of the bugs out. This was one test n tune I wasn't about to miss. The car is a beast. In his own words ( I think I'm kinda afraid of this car). He was never able to make a full pass. the first couple of feel out passes. where just to see how she would launch. The car was almost instantly on the rev limiter.
Breaking traction at the 2nd gear shift.
The comedy relief came on the 3rd or 4th pass when he really heated the tires and left off of idel instead of putting it on the converter. Let me put it this way if my camera battery hadn't died. I could be 10,000 dollars richer.
if I sent That video clip to America most funny videos.
The light went down. the front wheels went about a foot in the air. Causing Shawn to be thrown back in the seat so hard that the seat went back about 4 inches. His hands went straight in the air. In a split second he had it back under control. Trying to find the shifter to hit second.
His bodyman and friend instantly coin the name Carlin's hands free racing team. I laugh until I cried all the way home.
To give and idea of the power of his car that off idel pass resulted in a 60 ft time of 1.49 and 1/8 mile of 7.30 something at only 75mph in and out of the car all the way down the track. That car is going to be wicked when he gets the bugs out and leave on the trans brake.
I can wait to get out there myself. lots of fun had by all.

I did that for you Terrance, as a lesson as what not to do when you get the green light :Smarty: Wait till you see what I have for an encore. But really, I had a great time and cant wait for the next test session with a few changes, including some kind of brace for the seat back. Shawn Carlin

VERY nice looking Regal. I calculate that's about 11.30 1/4 mile assuming the usual BBB Regal weights with that (undialed in) 1/8. Well done!

    11.1

Thanks Clint & hector. It has been 11.1 so far, and weighs 3200 without me in it. Still need to cage it for safety and to support the drivers seat. Cant wait to get "hands free racing" off the hood. Shawn

    Hands Free

yea, there is a lot of weight that I could still remove. I will put it back on the street someday, so I wanna leave a lot of the stuff on it. As far as the name go's, I think that I am the only one that doesnt like it. Everyone thinks that I should leave it. I think I will just leave it with my friend and see what he does to it, he does very good work. Shawn

    Glasstec

Thanks John. The hood is from Glasstec and I was pleased with the quality. I have had some VFN parts too and they also were very good, but required some fiberglass work to get them to fit right. My car is going on 2 years now and still needs a little more work, but I am happy with it now because I can take it to the track now. Shawn

    Texas buick question

    Hi All,
I am happy to see so many Texan Buicks. I am planning to trade for a Buick regal 455 project with a board member and had two questions about it. Can this be legally registered in Houston, Texas? And, can anyone help or know someone that could help with towing the car from Lufkin to Houston about 3 hours or so? Again, nice car.

Real nice ride! I love the opening story :TU:

Could you post a material list of your ride? I'm sure there will be a few curious folks reading this, such as myself.

Motor stuff, cam, carb size, head porting? etc

Chasis, what have you done to lighten it? Motor mounts? Converter, trans cross memeber, etc ..

Hope to read more about your car.. Thanks :TU: :TU:

    list

My car is a 83 t-type. It has fiberglass bumpers w/aluminum brackets and now a fiberglass hood with "hands free racing" on it. No A/C or radio and gas tank removed(8 gallon cell in trunk). G-force cross member and Turbo 400 w/brake + PTC 4000 stall converter. As far as the motor, it is a 494 with JE 11:1 forged pistons, TA stroker kit, TA 608b cam, TA front cover, TA girdle, TA SP1 intake, 1050 dominator carb, TA stage 2 SE heads with level 1 porting, and TA roller rockers. Also has a Ford 9" with a spool and 3.90 gears. The rear has Metco upper and lower bars and ATR rear sway bar. Soon will be moving battery to trunk and changing the flowmasters to Race Magnums. Hopefully will have it caged by early 07. Shawn
