Am looking for advice on Mr. G. Wondering if anyone has used them and if they are any good. I need to rechrome by instrument bezel, but don't want to get into big bucks with it if I can avoid it.
I don't know about today, but I used them 15 years ago for all my interior plastic chrome including the dash bezel and woodgrain. I had no complaints, they did a nice job and everything they did, held up and wore great and still looks new. Since you'll have the dash bezel off, it's a great idea to replace all the dash bulbs and replace the dash guage bezels with new ones (I got those from Year 1). That really made a huge difference and I love driving my car at night! Paul
Thanks for the input. I did do a search, but didn't come up with anything. It didn't like the "G". Thought it needed more. Those of you that used them, did you get your same parts back or exchange them as a core? Seems that's how they do business.
I spoke to Glen who owns Mr G's and he said since Buick stuff is not frequent or plentiful...he does not "swap" those items. He usually takes 6-9 weeks depending on how busy he is. I have been using his company for 7 years and did about 8 cars and never had a problem.
Chrome armrest backing plates I got the chrome armrest backing plates for a 70GS from them, they look like new. No complaints here. Bert
Thanks for all the feedback. I read the "complaint link". I do think they have some sort of disclaimer on their website and explain there may be some imperfections. Seems if you are doing a frame-off concourse restoration, go somewhere else. I just want to dress it up at this point so this may be adequate for my budget. Seems as with anything, some are happy and some are not.
Welcome to Paul's, the world's Premiere Restoration Replater what are pauls prices like ? They claim they are the only ones that use the copper base to ensure the chrome does not wear off.
Just an FYI - Plastic plating is really a process called Vacuum Deposition. The process applies an aluminum powder to the part, and then it is clear coated. This process is basically cosmetic, and has poor wear and weather resistance. It is used primary on interior parts. The other application for plastic plating is called hot stamping. This process is used on raised areas like lettering and gauge surrounds.
dl7265....can you add at least your first name to your signature line? Call Paul's Chrome...make sure you are sitting down when he quotes you a price.......last I heard....70 Skylark front bumper was $1100
B & R custom chrome 1672 Oakwood Toledo, Oh 43607 419-536-7215 Joe Koren I found an old N-25 rear bumper and took it & my front bumper here. $300 each and they are show quality!!! Straight up guy. I understand it is mostly the environmental costs that make rechroming so expensive. Maybe OH is easy on this stuff. All I can say is my stuff was great. I used Mr G's for a radio bezel(plastic) and was not impressed. $$$ and so so results. Nelson
Nelson, Can I take a look at your bumpers some time. I am close and am interested in the quality of their work. I will need a couple of bumpers rechromed in the near future. Do they have a lifetime warrenty on their chrome? What was the turn around time and how long did you have them done? There is a place in Romulas that did my last bumper and was not overly impressed with the job they did!
Heck, yeah! They are in Livonia near Merriman & I-96. Call me @ 734-812-1688. We'll set up a time. Nelson
I am confused with this thread, it appears that Mr. G does plastic chroming, then this thread switches to bumpers. Does that mean the chromers can also do plastic. Also if not Mr. G for the plastic chroming, who else does do it?
Here's the most recent thread on plastic rechroming, or if you prefer, vacuum deposition: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=75899 As the thread states, excellent results with www.cvvacuumplaters.com :TU:
