i have an 87 t top limitied im taking the 307 out of and putting a 455 in it, it has the digital speedo and im wondering if it will still work even though i wont be usuing the ecm in the car anymore, anyone ever try this?dan
Good question! I don't know. The only person that I know who has one is my brother and its in his T-type. The computer needs to work for his car to run. Maybe he can unplug the puter and put the ignition to run. Maybe it will light up??? Maybe you could do the same. Or, you might be able to run a hot wire from an ignition source in the fuse box. Its worth a try.
dan, that 307 would be the "roller" engine correct? ya plan on selling it? g'luck w/the 455 eric
I tried to get one working without the ECU a few years back with just a hall effect sender. It worked in that you would see speed come up, but it was pretty innaccurate and hard to adjust. I eneded up putting in a GNX style dash instead with adjustable VDO speedo.
If you go over to the TurboBuicks.com website search or even ask that same question, I remeber them talking about, DPI injector systems, and bypassing the ecu, but picking up a VSS conversion kit for the Speedo gauge to still work gorrectly and to run lockup. And they were putting aftermarket guages in some but keeping the stock eng ecu set up. I think they mention 1 or 2 of the major Gauge manufactures, like VDO or Steawrt warrner. Might check there Hope this helps
yes the digital dash will work as long as the speedo cable is hooked up and it has power .they had a digital dash as early as 83 andy
