Hello folks, I know this where alot of big block drivers post there race stories. However, I am about to drag race for the first time in about another month and I need input. Has anyone ever seen a Buick small block run at the tracks excluding Turbo V6 out of GN and T-Types. I have a 340-4 out of my Grand dad's GS340 that I have been working on to take to the track on the weekends, but a daily driver during the week. I just want to know if anybody has seen this engine being ran. If so what was the et or top speed. Oh I am not spraying. The engine is installed in my Monte Carlo Super Sport with 3.42, upgrading to 3.73. My trans is an TH350 out of my dads old 74 Trans Am. The transmission has been beefed up and also carries a 2200 stall. You can see my signiture for a few more mods.

    Thanks in advance

Come on fellas I know someone on this board has witnessed a buick small block race at the track. Super Stock class.

  3. I can honestly say I have not seen a 340 mentioned on the board in the past year, as far as racing one. It was only available for one year I believe, 1967, so performance parts are pretty rare. Lots of guys are running 350's though. There's Isaac Zane running NHRA in the mid 11's with a 350 SBB in a 73 Apollo. I haven't had my 68 GS350 to a track yet, so don't know what it will run. 340's? No idea. Be patient, somone will have some info!

julian, if our 67 340 is any indication, at sea level it turns 15.o's. with the 3.73's , you should do that easily. just put in it D and dragaway

What mods have you done to your 340 and transmission being used with it? What kind of car is it in? What size tires are you using?
I read the when the GS340 was test driven by Car Life mag it ran 16.7 in a 1/4, but I assume thats with the stock 3.23 gears.

    Thanks for replying:beer

it is a stock 67 special with optional 340, auto, a/c, p/s, duals, stock size radials and whatever stock gear ratio is. basic tuneup.
the 340 is a great motor, highly underrated and understood. i would compare to the 327 chevy engine. wish they had made more hipo parts for it.
