Anyone Know the meaning of the name "HAYES" stamped into the frame of a 71 GS? This is just above the part # behind left rear wheel. I assume some manufacturer of frames. I never have heard of them. I just found this recently when looking for numbers.

HAYES would be the name of the company that produced the frame.

Would the frame maker have been part of the wheel maker , Kesler Hayes, who made spoked wheels for Gm?
