As I approach time to install a clutch I started looking at the kits available. Summit being close to me I looked at what they had available.

Is there anyone who has tried both, one or the other? Your thoughts or experiences appreciated.

The hayes Street/Strip clutch kit costs alittle more but comes with a throwout bearing.

Centerforce doesn't come with a threowout bearing but has some kind of weight assist technology that says it gives more grabbing power.

Does it matter ...does anyone feel one is better than the other for any reason. Please step up to the mic and give me your thoughts.

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

When I purchased my Centerforce Clutch from Summit (for my 70 STG1) it came with a clutch disc, pressure plate, and a T.O. Bearing. From time to time I think I can hear a ticking noise from it, which other C.F. owners have told me they have heard......but, all in all....it locks up tight. I have launched my car pretty hard in second gear :3gears: and it doesn't seem to slip at all. I liked the C.F. in my car that I purchased one for a client's chevelle and installed it a couple of weeks ago. :TU: :TU: :TU:

Ceterforce dual friction = light on the pedal pressure and great on the grip.

Absolutely. To get the same amount of clamping pressure you will have a much heavier load on the pedal. Go with the centerforce 2 --you wont regret it .

Wow pretty unanimous so far. Those of you who replied can you give me a little input on what type of driving abuse and frequency of abuse  :3gears: if any do you put the clutches through?

Man I just noticed I placed this thread in the wrong section...should have been in the U-Shiftum forum.

See if I can get Greg to move it.

    Clutch

I am putting a new Centerforce Dual-Friction in my car this weekend. I currently have a semi-metallic clutch that I bought from PST a few years ago. I am replacing the metallic clutch because it is just too aggressive...it shakes the whole car when I try to launch normally. I have heard nothing but positive about the Centerforce from the others guys that run it. I will post my input when Im done installing it.

I had a Centerforce in an old Jeep CJ-5 I had with 33's and a built 304. I never even came close to slipping that clutch and I abused it mercilessly. The pedal pressure was lighter than stock too which was a bonus. I would reccommend Centerforce to anyone.

    Centerforce!

Well I finally got all of the bugs worked out of my clutch install and have had a chance to put about 150 miles on the new centerforce clutch. I am very pleased with the pedal feel. The engagement is very smooth and it handled all of my 550 ft. lb of torque without slippage...granted it was on 275-60 street tires. I launched it pretty hard a couple of nights ago and it held all I could give it :3gears: . I am in agreement with the majority...I like it!! :TU:

I would go w/ centerforce as well. The rat-pack car club here that puts on a big yearly car show has a blown camaro w/ a 4 speed and talked 2 the guy and says that he would never go w/ anything else than a centerforce clutch kit. :TU:

I have run both Hays and Centerforce in my convertible. I raced it in the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race from 1996 - 2003 as well as at The GS Nats from 1992 - 2000 and Buick Race day at Norwalk in 5 different years as well as several thousand miles. The Hays lasted 3 years the centerforce is still in the car after 6 years. I prefer the centerforce.
