I am about to remove the heads from a 73 455. What is a good way to loosen the head bolts? Heat? Impact driver? Breaker bar? Never done this before thanks!

If you wanted to err on the side of caution - break each one loose just a little - then zip them off with the impact.

In reality, if you dropped your engine off to most machine shops - they'd only use the gun.

Zipping the bolts off with the breaker will be the easiest, Thats what we do at our shop. YOu should be fine as long as you don't "torque" them with the Gun:Brow: :Brow:

Thanks! they came off very easily with a breaker bar. Now the 73 heads are in their resting place awaiting removal of valves so the wife can use them as decorative planters............will have to be painted pink of course in accordance with homeowners association cc&r's.

I like the decorative touch. An iron intake, painted pink of course, turned over would also allow for 16 varieties of plants. Give it some thought.:beer
