I talk to the people from Poston and they said that the collector on the headers that they are going to start back making for 340 is only 1 7/8 inches if I understood him correctly. Would that not defeat the purpose of having headers. I could see if it was 2 1/4 to 3 inch ranch. Man the air has been let out of my ballon.ou:
Julian, I think you might have misunderstood. The headers that they have in the catalog that I have, fit 300-340 engines (PE709773) and feature 1 5/8" primary tubes with 3 "collectors. These fit 64-67 Skylark (GS).
I hope the new headers have the same specs. I was talking to some of my friends that work at the mufflershop and I need 3" collector to get the exhaust system I want. Does any one out there own the headers made for this engine and how much louder is it than regular exhaust manifolds.
I have a set of these headers on my '64 300 Skylark with a 4 speed. I purchased a Flowmaster "American Thunder" 2.5" dual exhaust system with mufflers from Summit racing & bolted everything together (with a little modification) - then had all of the seems welded. I think the 300 sounds great in this configuration, however it is pretty loud - being a convertible its really loud! I personally think the Car sounds really mean & I get a lot of looks with the car! I'd buy the same thing all over again, however my neighbors don't like me coming home late at night on weekdays! (Changing the mufflers would probably tone it down considerably).
The guys at the local muffler shop are going to take the flange off of the header and weld on 3"inch pipe some how and connect to flow master with H-Pipe desighn. Keep in ming folks I have a monte carlo ss so I hope the headers will even fit. Could someone please take some pictures of there engine with headers and post them so can see the design.:Brow:
