Well, I am very close to getting the 494 running in my 87 GN but the driver side header is giving me a lot of trouble. The passenger side wasnt real hard with a little cutting on the lower A frame, but the driver side hits the front of the lower A frame with one tube, and the rear with another tube. The one that hits the rear also hits the brake proportioning valve mounted on the frame. I have T/A stage 2 SE heads and the large tube headers from T/A. I would have to cut off way too much of the front and rear of the A frame for it to work, as well as relocate the valve and make new lines. I cant see any other option than removing the 2 pipes and re routing them. Anyone have any suggestions to make my life easier? I will be an alcoholic if I have to keep dealing with this header much more. Thanks, Shawn

Well, one option is to lower the engine a bit. The engine mounts for Skylarks have only 1 hole, but the large body cars have mounts with a hole 3/4" higher on the mount. Setting up your frame pads to work with this hole (plus thinning the TA pads 1/4" will lower the engine and let the headers clear the a-arms and the firewall much easier. This also provides better weight transfer.

Another option, is to dimple the headers. Hurts the exhaust flow though.

Kerry S. on the board here has a similar setup and may be of more help than I.

    Cheers,

Thanks Clint, but the oil pan would bottom on the on the front cross secton if it went any lower. I would also need to figure a new location for the proportioning valve. Shawn :Do No: :ball:

i have the same set up. i just kept slowly whittling on the a arm tilll
it just barley cleared and i moved the porportioning valve uo onto the
bottom of the fire walll under the stearing column. i had a high pressure
flex hose made to reconnect the brake line.

    problem solved

well, I solved my problem. had to remove 1 tube from the header an rerout it and weld it back in place. I also had to bend another tube and now all is good. Thank for all your comments. Shawn
