Headrests!

My '65 has the standard bench. There are no headrests.

I'd like to drive the car more, but have been a little worried the way traffic here is in CA. I also have some other medical issues that I'd really not like to add to.

Does anyone know what I can do about this? I have had the bench reupholstered, but it was a long time ago. If I could add a headrest then I don't think I'd care too much about poking some holes.

Also, at the same time I would like to add a 3 point seat belt. Currently it is the original and worn out lap belt.

Or, if anyone has any other better (safer) ideas than the current setup.

    Thanks

I don't know too much about the 65 seats but when I cobbled together the bucket seats for my 71 I had cores that did not have headrests on them BUT the provision for headrests was built into the seat. I was able to take the headrest hardware and headrests off of a donor pair and put them on the earlier style seats. Besides transferring the hardware a little "X" cut in the upholstery at the tops of the seats where the headrest posts went in was all I needed to do.
Do you know if your seats have the provisions for headrests built into them?

I really don't know if there is any provision for a headrest. The other problem to me is that the bench really isn't safe to begin with. It's classic sure, looks awesome with a lady friend riding by the side.

I've seen over the years companies that make buckets that look classic but are a lot safer.. Sort of the same as adapting buckets like you did. Then you can put in a 3 point and be somewhat safe.

My upholstery was done but I guess I'd probably take the safety over matching it all perfectly.

Headrests did not become mandatory till '69, so they were not available for your '65. :TU:
