  2. John, it's a bummer you are unable to post pics on your ebay listings. I personally never bid on anything without pictures posted, or available via email.

    John,

Chassis manual says: upper radiator pannel

    Let's call it a shroudplate?

I'm sorry, I don't have any digital camera or scanner equipment. However, when it is possible, I do send people links to old auctions where the same item was sold and there is a picture present.
Your policy regarding auctions is a two-edged sword. Of course pictures would be very helpful for some of these items. In the first place, I'm asking $.99 for every item. Is it worth the risk??? On the other hand, other bidders are smiling because they know guys like you are sitting out. Some have even SENT ME pictures in order to verify which item I have. I personally will ALWAYS watch auctions without pictures, as well as auctions that don't take Pay-Pal. I have won more cool items for less money that way.
Please note one of my most recent feedback messages, regarding a Buick Ram Air air filter setup I sold a couple of weeks ago.

Erik, thank you very much for your reply. It would figure that the manual has no better name for this item than I could come up with. Thanks for the response!

  6. John, I wasn't being critical in any way. I hope you didn't get that impression from my statement of my own policy re pictureless auctions.

It isn't a matter of not knowing what a part looks like, it's a matter of knowing what a specific seller's part looks like, that keeps me away from text-only auctions. I may miss out on some good parts, but I personally put a lot of weight in a good quality photo. Just my own preferences, and I know a lot of buyers feel the same, at the same time as many buyers will chance buying parts w/o pics at likely a lower price. No one's right or wrong, just different preferences. :)

    John,
Which distributor is in better shape? Is there any real difference in them?

I don't see any difference in the two distributors. If you are looking for something specific, please let me know. The distributor that was in the 1970 Riv motor was working fine in the mid '90s. I pulled it out to install electronic ignition. It has been stored, with the cap still on it, in a garage ever since. It appears that in some moving incident, the negative wire has been cut at the bottom of the distributor, and is no longer there. Hopefully that wire is not a problem to replace. The '72 distributor, while garaged for the last few years, has had no cap on it. The plate that the points sits on has some surface rust. There is nothing attached to that plate. It still spins okay. I have never used the '72 distributor, so Hope this helps!!

Of course if John had done that, I probably would not have been able to buy a GS emblem for $3.32.

Of course if he had done that, I would probably know what year car it fit, whether it was for the fender or trunk, what shape it was in, etc.

Oh well, it was only $6 with shipping, and this way it is like a Xmas surprise when it gets here!

Actually, I would have thought this auction would have been pretty straightforward, picture or not. The part number is there, and the fact that it has three pins. Since the part number crosses to both fender and trunk emblems, a picture would only have looked pretty. But you would not have known any more than you do now. Year One isn't always clear about what applications their emblems fit..........sort of frustrating.

Thanks for the advice. My computer experience doesn't include much past e-bay and bulletin boards.

Thanks to everybody that had a look at the auctions. I don't think I did too badly. I think I'm about out of parts, but I will look around when I have these things cleared out.

    John,

You did a good job in your description of the part and gave the part number, I am just too lazy to look it up:grin:

Plus, I like surprises! I don't think I even have a car to put it on yet, but how could you go wrong with a GS Emblem for $3.32? I can hang it in the garage until I find a car to mount it to!
