The heat stays on at my feet when everything is shut off and the the temperature is turned down the lowest it goes. When the Comfortron, auto AC is on I don't notice it. I have been told that the heater valve is probably stuck and not functioning right. Anyone have this happen to them and what was the remedy? The car is a 1976 Buick Electra LTD., 455V8 with about 105000 miles and original in most respects. Thanks...Paul.
That advice is good to start with - replace the heater control valve. When working properly, it will prohibit hot coolant from flowing into the heater core when the temperature selection is on 'cold'.
I have the same problem in my '71 Cutlass. When everything is off, the "Astro Ventilation" (actually, that was Ch*vy's name for it...not sure about the BOP nomenclature) kicks in. It pulls in vent air and spits it out through the heater vents. Supposed to be outside air temp from under the hood, but my A/C box leaks bad and it pulls in air from right above my headers...WAY warm! Until I get my new suitcase on and resealed, I'm driving it in Defrost mode. That may not be your problem, but if it's cold with AC on, then I can't see it being the heater control valve. Otherwise, it would be hot even with the AC on. C.J.
Yup, that's my thinking on it also. There is a good Radiator/AC shop up here in Alma, and I'm going to ask them what I need to do to fix the problem. I hope it won't cost a bunch and parts should be around if required.
Chris, Not yet, haven't been to the shop yet. I'll let the gang here know what I find out and how much $$. :3gears:
