Looking for the heat tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner for a 69 Gs.

Are 350 & 400 the same? I've got 4 here and they are all the same and I think they are off both type engines.

From what I have been ablel to tell from the parts books, the 68 GS and no GS and the 69 non GS are the same and 69 GS, 350/400 are the same, as I remember the parts book only lists two numbers, I can post a picture of each if you like, thanks Bill.

The 69 GS 400 is unique and one year only. 68 GS 350, 400 or non GS 68 and 69 GS 350, Non GS cars Part Number 1386431. 69 GS 400 Part Number 1386812

There seems to be a difference of opinion, or should I say, accurate information about these tubes. Bring on the pictures and fire up the scanners boys...:Comp:

The information I provided comes from a 68/69 parts list as well as the 1969 assembly manual. I've also had both tubes and they are different. The 400 is a flatter engine. Just like the air cleaner support is shorter on the 400, so is it's heat tube.

350 tubes are very common, 400 tubes not so much. I'd go take a picture, however, I don't think I have a 350 tube to set it side by side, so you can see the differences. That and I'm not quite sure of where it is:Dou: If I get the chance and I can find I'll post it:TU:

Here is a original picture of my 400 with the correct tube installed:

Hey Rich, you better get a cover on that power steering pump. You don't wanna get dirt in there. :pp

That engine compartment looks pretty stock, it's a good reference no matter what it looks like. :beers2:

I actually for some reason think I might have the wrong tube. I need the 400 one, I need to check it and compare to your picture now. Always something else to wonder and be paranoid about.

Well, I went out and I think I found my 400 tube and another, which should be a 350 tube, however, they look the same:Dou: So now I'm confused:Do No:

The part number is definitley unique for the 69 400 heat tube.

Well, since we are on the subject of part numbers, what part number is on the one from the 400? I can check it against mine. Meaning I can see if "I" have the correct one for my 400. I got it years ago at a swap meet somewhere.

Well I just took a picture of the parts page, can I have a new answer:Smarty:

Looks like 68 350, 400 and 69 350 carry the same part. You'll see the exe dual snorkel which has a unique part number. The 400 and dual air cleaner kind of run together. Anyhow, that would mean 69 GS cars are the same (350 or 400) which would agree with my ram air cleaners (Ones a 350 the other a 400).

Damn, I hate being sure of something only to prove myself wrong:Dou:

Well, I finally have time to take picutures and post them... :kodak:

The one on the right is my original 68 GS400... This is for a single snorkle air cleaner. Using a string, it measures 16" end to end.

The one on the left is a 69 GS400... This is for a dual snorkle air cleaner. Using a string, it measures 20" end to end.

    Rick,
I was originally going to sell the 69 but have decided to install the dual snorkle air cleaner on my 68 GS400. If I decide to sell, I will let you know. Hopefully I will have the car put back together in about a month, and I will know then.
