I have to replace the V shaped defroster duct under my dash. The original is brittle and distorted from heat and time. Its not connected to the dash anymore and just rattles every time I take the car out. Looks like I can't get it out without removing the heater box. From what I can tell, the heater box looks like its mounted with three studs and nuts. Two on the top and 3 on the bottom. Is that all there is to it on a non A/C car? Seems too easy! Its been so long since I did one on a non A/C car. I remember the horror show the A/C cars are. My second question is, once the heater box is removed how easily will the defroster duct come out? Any tricks or tips?

I have done it and as I recall you are correct in your job description. My tips are to save the rubber insulators that were original to the outlets on the core. The new ones are different. Also order a repair kit for the heater box from www.opgi.com. The rubbers on the doors are usually shot and need replacing. If you are froggy remove the kick panels, redye them SEM, rid them of rust and lube. While in there remove and replace the seam sealer as necessary. It it has never been replaced it will be loose and cracked.
