I don't know what is going on! My engine still will not turn over. This is the third day after I got it put back in from a rebuild. I cannot get any spark from the coil still. Why? I just replaced the points and condensor in the dist., I replaced the coil, I have a new starter and battery. I tested the wiring and am getting power to the coil on the positive side, but when I try to test for spark on the coil wire I am not getting any, I am using your basic spark plug tester that I plugged into the coil wire at the dist cap end. Is this correct way to test? If so, then why no spark from the coil when I try to crank it. The negative wire is attached from the dist. to a new points and cond. set. Is my dist. bad? Please help, any advice will do.:ball:

Also, I have new wires installed. But they seem kinda crappy because you have to put the caps on yourself and maybe they aren't working properly?

are you testing the coil for power while the motor is cranking or just with th key on? it is 2 entirely different situations.

there is a (yellow?) wire that comes from the starter selonoid ("I" terminal) that is supposed to give straight 12 volts to the coil while the motor is cranking. then once the motor is started, the coil will get (about) 6 volts from the ignition switch through the resistor mounted on the firewall. 12 VOLTS THROUGH THE COIL FOR A LONG TIME WILL OVERHEAT THE COIL.

if you had all of that stuff in order in the first place, then maybe your points arent opening and closing properly. who installed your points? did they just bolt them in or did they "set" them with a dwell meter?

points MUST open and close properly to make the coil "fire".

    KEEP US POSTED.

My neighbor helped me install the new points. I re-checked them and they were not set correctly accordin to the installation of the dist.(slightly open and rotor at no.1 firing position) says Chilton. After correcting this and re-installing the dist. CORRECTLY I finally got spark! Thank you so much for your help.:beer
