    Hi;
    I have a '65 Skylark with the 300 ci. in. 4 bbl v8.
    Is there an HEI distributer that will drop right in.

    Thanks, Harry

    Yes, later model, 1975 and later large, coil-in-cap HEI form 350 cu/ion engines will "drop right in".

    Recurve, restrict the vacuum advance, move coil out of cap, and it should work OK for a stocker.

    Thanks for the info.
    Just curious, but why move the coil out of the cap?

    Only time fifty I have written this:

    THE COILS IN THE CAP ARE EPOXY FILLED, AND THEY ARE TRASH, STOCK AND AFTERMARTKET.

    The in-cap epoxy coils will bleed off spark energy as they get hot, and ecven the biggest high-zoot welding 60,000 volt coil will end up at the regular HEI voltage of 20,000 volts when it gets to its ops temp. This makes those coils the best rev limiters GM ever mass produced.

    That said, yet once again, a remote from the cap oil filled coil (a coil that has a circulatory heat transfer system inside it), mounted away from the distributor, will not have the heating and performance loss issues an in-cap epoxy coil will/does. The undercap temps drop by 45 degrees or so as well.

    So, now, what do you wish, a heater for your distributor, or a better coil for it, remotely mounted? Your choice.

    Guess that explains it all.

    Thanks a lot, Harry

    hly-821-1 in the summit catalog if you want a simple way to move the coil. $11.50 for a dust cover with a hole drilled in it, a terminal for the top, and a rod to connect them.
