Hello everyone. New to the board but have been reading it for about a week. I had a question though. In all the messages on this board I can't find anything for my transmission. o No: Not even a message that says it is a POS :grin: I have a 69 Buick Skylark with a 350 and a Powerglide trans going into a no-posi rear end. Sorry don't know anything more than that. I just got into car with I turned 16 and this car kinda fell into my lap. Hey only had 800 bucks and parents weren't going to help So I had to get something. Only thing I could find in Dublin GA, well Medder really. Only like 30 minutes away though. Not that much wrong with it,.... well ok the interior could use a..... well, a new interior. Finally got a CD player and some MA 6X9 who hoooo!!!!!:TU: Anyways it runs alright, was think about rebuilded it at school come fall, what else is there to do when your going to have about 5 hours of shop class, what can I say only have to take 1 core class and I'm done with high school. Anyways i talk to much. So anyways was this a rare option or just a option that nobody wanted? Should I say with what I got or does it suck so much that I should save the money and go with a 4 speed or a manual trans? Thanks
Welcome to V8 buick.com You have a very nice car to start out with. The buick 350 is a very nice motor. They are very durable engines. There are many guys on this board that also have that style of car. Yeah it is a 2 speed. But I found out it's not a Power Glide it's a st300. It seems that there are more than 1 2-speed transmission out there. I never knew.
Th ST300 is a switch pitch trans, problem is its a 2 speed. In 69 it should've had a TH350 3speed auto. 68's had the 2 speed. I think the powerslide was a chevy only deal... You can get a TH350 used for pretty cheap. Very common. I'll even have an extra one soon, you can have it for like $50, but I am NOT gonna ship it... the TH350 would give you noticeable improvement in performance (more gears!) and mileage... Very easy swap too. Switching to a manual trans is big bucks, $2k minimum just to get all the right parts. Get a TH350 or a Th200r4 (4spd auto w/overdrive). BTW, 68/69 Buick's are my favorite.. Dan
The 200-4r is an excellent choice for a driver or street/strip.:TU: These trannies can now be built to take quite a bit of power!:TU: Pretty much a straight swap for a 350 tranny, except for moving the crossmember back.:grin: It will give you better 1st and 2nd gear acceleration and overdrive for better gas mileage and less wear and tear on the motor!!:TU: :TU: Keep the lock up converter for even better mileage! There are several guys on this board that can help you out and sell you the wiring to use the lockup converter.
Thanks all I'm shure it's a 69 and that it has a 2 speed in it. I thought maybe it was a power glide but someone told me it would be a st300. I don't know what it is. Anyways thanks everyone. I think i'll stick with this one right now. Once I get everything else that NEEDS to be fixed, well fixed then I'll go for the transmission swap. By then I'll be done with Boot Camp and have 3 months worth of E1 pay, (980ish for each of your first 4 months I belive) I belive that 3K should get me a new trans, oh oh oh oh and maybe new rear gears!!!!!! hehe thanks again all:grin:
