I'm tired of bad light, small space, no storage, tripping on extension cords, blah, blah, blah. I'm going to build a storage shed for the stuff and want to make 1/2 of my 2 car garage my new home. I want to do it right the first time.
    Any ideas?
    What have you folks done?
    What works for you?

I plan to build a cart for the miter saw, wire the place for an air compressor and welder (of which I have neither). I have only 1 outlet at this time in the garage. I have a floor model drill press, tool chest on casters, a wall of peg board.
Im a science teacher so I tinker/make a bunch of stuff all the time.

Well, it will always be a work-in-progess! I am going to recommend HO (high output) 96" flouresent shop lights. They draw very, very, little amps, and they are not your average shop lights. I bought several from Granger, and they work excellent! The model I bought has fast start ballasts that will start at VERY cold temps. This is big plus. More $$$ but well worth it, trust me. They have a website, but I recommend calling the at 1-888-361-8649, hope this helps.

Im planning on re-doing my garage also, mainly insulating & drywalling it along with new wood storage shelves and getting rid of tons of junk! Part of the difficulty for my garage is it has an entire shop's worth of carpentry tools which I still use frequently and all the garden, lawn and outdoor power equiptment in the garage too. I'd like to get a shed but not sure where I would put it.

HERE is a link to a good thread full of V8 members garages, mainly the outside. :TU:

Dave, You might want to make sure the electrical suppy to the garage is up to par. Don't want to go adding a bunch of outlets and lights and try running off a 15 or 20 amp service. I would recomend 60 minimum.

Dave-yup, good lighting and electrical service is important. Also, for us in the northern part of the country, a good heater-we all benefit from insulation. I'm always looking for ways to keep stuff off the floor to not take up room=ceiling/wall mounting for as much as I can-good luck!
