ok i have a 19760 skylark 350. I am dropping a 570ish lift cam but this is one thing that i have been stressing about. If i drop the cam in then my vacume will drop when i come to a light wich will make it so that i wont have any break power. please tell me what i can do!
Is it otherwise stock!? If that's the case, a .570 (ish) cam is going to be way too big in a 350. A lot of the 455 guys are going with much less lift than that. Could you give more information on your engine setup?
Won't anything over .500 cause the spring retainers to hit the top of the valve guide? Or is that only on the V6...o No:
Mike, From what I have heard "don't take this as gosple" Machine work is needed after .500 to prevent coil bind on the spring.
Many of the V6's needed to have the top of the guide trimmed with anything over .420" lift. I believe the later heads (GN/TR) had more clearance.
Listen to this: Don't miss this opportunity !! He's one of the best in the business.... ::TU: please let him give you an advice, based on your specs. and you will end up with the most powerful cam for your engine combo. :Smarty: A to big cam only makes you sad... :ball:
what kind of engine specs do you need? i actually dont know to much about my specs cause i just got the car. Um i know it has a four barrel manifold that says stage one, i also know that it has an RV cam and i want something that is thumpy and alot of torque. i am really into drag racing and thats what i want to do. The car has 3:43 gears and i plan to stick with them. um what else do you need to know?
So it has the TA intake on it already. Probably a stock engine other than a small cam now. Exactly waht cam are you looking at? .570 lift is going to be way too much cam. I can suggewst a good lumpy cam , but you will need a non stock converter to go along with it. If youput too bi a cam, and too small of a converter, you wil end up with something that idles poorly and has no low end power. Jim Burek
ok well then can you recomend a converter to go with your semi lumpy cam...and um can you give me the cam specs? and the stall converter rpm?
I will need to get back with you sometime next week, I am leaving town for a week, going to the nats in BG. Then I will need to talk to you about exactly what you wanting to accomplish, then we can talk cams and converters. Jim Burek
[and i want something that is thumpy and alot of torque. ] Well, those two criteria are contradictory... on an otherwise mild engine, you get max torque with a stock (or less) cam. As the idle gets lumpier, the power band goes up. Lumpy cams have more power, relatively, after 5252 RPM (the point where HP and torque cross), which is a lot for a 350... Be careful... if you just want the feel, buy some Borlas fo it... Frank
