My 70 electra is leaking tranny fluid. It seems to be coming out of the top of the dipstick. Is this possible and what could be causing it Thanks for any help you can give me. Tom :Do No:

One possibility is an over-fill condition...does the level check out ok?

I've also seen this happen when the trans case vent is plugged. Check for a small diameter metal tube that's pressed directly into the side of the case, right hand side above the point at which the cooler lines attach. The tube has one bend, the opening faces the rear of the vehicle and is angled slightly downward. You can try pushing through the vent with a small diameter wire in case something's lodged in there.

    I'd also guess an over-fill.

Do you let the vehicle sit for awhile then notice the leak? or does it leak after driving it? I have a problem if I let my car sit for 2 or more weeks because then the torque converter drains and overflows out of the dipstick tube. o-ring
