    Hi Everyone,

I have a 68 GS Califorina and plan on doing some work to the engine this winter. I would like to know what others would do in my case to the car. The car is totaly stock and orginal. It has 80000 miles on it. It doesnt burn any oil, but it does have a slight transmission leak and exhaust leak from left side manifold. I have been buing parts for the last year to at least redo the top of the engine. What other options are there other than a total rebuild. I dont feel that i am capabled of this myself either.

    Thanks for the help.

Talk to Jim Weise about all of your motor problems. He and T/A are some of the biggest buick engine guru's around. Jim is the owner of Tri-Shield Performance, you can find them here: Tri Shield Performance . Jim is the head honcho around here and is a great guy.

    who me?

    Chris, your far too kind...

I'm flattered to be mentioned in that kinda company. Mike and Sherri at TA have been at this almost 20 years now professionally, and prolly more like 30 total..

Our strengths here lye in the ability to put together a total package, whether that be a motor, trans, or whole turn key race or street car. I would not put myself in the same class as Mike, when it comes to "just" engine knowledge. There are precious few folks that could be in that class, if any, when it comes to the knowledge and ability to design/procure new parts, and all the the stuff the rest of us yo-yo's have to have, to build all these cool cars.

It's pretty simple... if Mike were to have a whole car done, he would send it to me, and when I need motor parts/consultation, I call him. And I have a lot of help, and some really excellent guys working with me, doing machining, porting, and that kinda stuff.

    Eric,

I would say that if you have a good bottom end, a fairly large gain in performance could be had, with the simple addition of a mild cam, intake, and headers. If the budget will allow, some head work will help even more. Distributor tweeking, and carb tuning will also help "wake it up" a bunch.

In my experience, the trans, at 35years of age, is due for a rebuild, which just about any local shop can accomplish, for $500-$600.

If you could pull the engine, and get it to me, we could do the top half work this winter, and re-gasket the rest of it. Trust me, it will be easier to pull the motor, than do all that work over the fenders. And you can get a chance to get some fresh motor mounts on it, and re-gasket the rest of the engine. Then we could dyno tune it, and get it ready for you and some buds to drop back in.

As far as us doing the whole deal... welp, with the schedule we have right now, you looking well into next year.. late summer or fall.. or later..

Speaking of that... I better get my butt back out in the shop, to finish fabricating the headers for the race car we have been working on, before it starts to grow roots on the chassis table...

email me at jim@trishieldperf.com, if you would like more info and some prices.
