I have a 72 Skylark 350 with an axle code LK B351 2, which I think is a 2.56 gear set with open differential and bolt in axles. I have a second hand "2 series" Posi carrier with an "S" spring. I have contacted a good parts supplier here in the UK, and they can get bearings and shims etc. However they tell me that the 2.56 carrier is a special which only suits that gear set. How can I check my s/hand carrier to see if it will accept the 2.56 gears? Is there a dimension I can check? Assuming that the carrier will fit, where can I get a replacement clutch pack? I'm told they are difficult to find! Regards, JM
Your posi will bolt right in with your open 2.56 gears NO PROBLEM. It is when you want to go to 2.73 3.08 3.42 and steeper - YOU will need a spacer kit for that. Clutches- NO Clutches available anymore. ONLY a few who still possess the ones bought years ago will be able to help...PUT out a www search but I have done this many times and was unsuccessful most of the time. MOST likely your clutches are good you just need to dissemble and check them re lube the clutches and ad about .010 shim on each side and run with it. JIM - J D :beers2:
