Please tell me where the number one position is on a stock 455 distributor cap... I have a donor 70 Lesabre 455 in my driveway that I may be able to buy for 600.00 if I can get it to run, and the firing order is askew! TIA Frank
It should be at the left side of the piont adj. window on the cap. Then the firing order is clockwise on the cap. Bring the balancer to TDC as indicated on the front cover timing tab. The rotor should be pointing at either no. 1 or no. 6 in the cap. Firing order is 18436572. Drivers side bank from the front is 1,3,5,7 and the pass. is 2,4,6,8 which you probably already know.
It doesn't matter where the #1 wire is located on the cap, as long as the firing order is correct, and the rotor is positioned correctly to fire #1. Some guys will even move the wires on the cap rather than pull the distributor to reposition it. Most times the #1 tower is clockwise from the points window. Here's a picture.
thank you both for your responses. I posted a new thread below this one, but this car seems like a steal at 500.$ Thanks again, Frank Brooks
