Another hub bearing Might be the same side I replaced over a year ago (left side) or could be the right side, which AFAIK is OEM. Wife was coming back from Columbus, she got as far as the last rest area on 271 before the 77 interchange, she called me just before she stopped and said the noise was getting worse and the steering feels wobbly, I said "pull over, its done" fortunately there was the rest area. I drove to meet up with her with the intentions of ME babying the Tahoe back. NOPE, the 'hoe was having no part in that, like trying to lead a horse to water, and it keeps rearing back, "Nope I aint going" So we had 'er flat bedded home, towing insurance covered that It sounds like it is the hub I replaced about 20000 miles ago, dont know for sure yet
My 2000 Camry wears out LR hub bearings. I know the car was in a few accidents before we got it (was a board member's wife's car) & assume something got bent & never straightened/replaced. At 1st thought it might be b/c of cheap/Xhineze bearings so put a Timken unit on last time & it definitely lasted longer but is singing again - Just got a new Timlen unit yesterday for my trip this weekend.
I replaced my left front at 250k(?) with a Timken. Front right is still original at 268k (‘07 Hoe). Patrick
Same here, replaced left front at 224000, right front is still OEM, I think. Left front one I got at NAPA, I’ll try a Chinese Moog from Summit Racing. They have Timken as well and Doorman, I should get the Doorman for 102 bucks and slap it on, prolly last forever
After having a Timken Hub bearing be defective right out of the box, I went on RA and ordered the cheapest one they had, a Power Stop Brand. It was 27.00. Put it on about 3 months and 1000 miles ago. So far, so good. I'm thinking they are all made in the same Chinese factory. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinf...urrXRnhNzkKsiPCrwMbpUlQXTkfs1hNGzevjILCl9C3YB
Pretty soon our entire GS's will be made from parts sourced from China through simple attrition. Except for maybe the roof.
I did both on the front of my Suburban 2500 at 125,000 with Moog units a few years ago. Probably got them from Rock Auto or Amazon. I don't put a lot of miles on it because of the crappy gas mileage, but so far so good at 145,000. It had a rough life before I got ahold of it. I did it to cure a death wobble problem, and it definitely helped.
I've owned a 1500 4X4 since new. It's been through 4 sets of front wheel bearings. First three were OEM's last set is Timken. IFS front setup is simply to much for inferior bearing design. I can feel when a bearing starts to go but this design once it's noisy it's usually really bad like you experienced. The 2500 i've had only replaced one bearing obviously beefier but don't have them for long enough to say. I had a 2016 F150 lease, Timken is the supplier and had a bearing failure at 20k so who knows.
Between the Explorer, Durango and the GMC Pickup I used to have, I can't even remember how many bearings I replaced. One time I opened the box and no threads were cut on the lugs. Just smooth bar stock. How does that pass QC?
Fortunately on the Tahoe they’re relatively easy to replace, BUT this one bailed out no warning, no rumble, no hum.
Mine went from quiet to horrible roar on one 300 mile trip. (I ended up changing it in the driveway on vacation). Patrick
Yep R/F it was destroyed, shrapnel all over the driveway. I believe this hub is OEM from day 1, 249,000 miles. Going to Summit tomorrow morning get the Moog hub, 139.00, put it on and away we go to Columbus to puck up our 2 foster dogs
