I would take the timing back to 32-34 max. Have you run a leak down? Was the cam dialed in,I've seen some way off. If that spec of 250/270ish at .050" thats a radical hyd roller for the street.

I had it at 34,...liked 38 better and showed it on the strap,...no idea on the cam,...I didn't install it,..have no paperwork on anything hell I only found out it was a 4/7 swap cam by investigating,... was wired conveniently

Haven't done a leakdown test yet too damn frustrated with it and had to get it out of my shop and sight for a bit

Starting to think it's just the car,...the last engine in it was complete dog also,...won't run at the temp I want,...has absolutely no bottom end,....tries to pull up top but then blows thru the converter because it's got a 342 gear vs the 410 I had the converter speced for,.....all I can think is it's severely retarded cam timing

This enough hard parts for 700hp and I swear it's down 400

Sounds like excessive slippage either converter or trans.
Is that the same trans and converter as with the last engine?

Fresh Trans and converter,...the Trans is done by a guy that has done several for me now,..but you never know,...almost feels like it's flaring in 3rd but that will have to wait till I can get the power it's missing,.....just called TA and apparently it's a 268/274 ,....with barely over 600lift!??? On a 108lsa,...so it's over cammed for sure,...a grind that makes no sense tbh,....and it may be installed retarded onto of that ,....so I'm guessing I have **** for cyl pressure,......

Like what combo would merit such duration and such wimpy lift???,....

Yes this motor should be 650 plus hp. Converter may be bad too. Bad cam timing will make a big difference.if that cam timing is at .050" it's too radical for the street. Converter is not compatible for a cam of that size.

Yea that's at .50,...I drove a 259 267 on a 108lsa with 635 lift all over the place,...car ran like it had fuel injection,....but this thing is a dog,...what gets me is it just won't rev,...just sounds lazy

    Absolutely,....but it's not a carb issue

I would check lifter preload, leak down, and then cam timing.

Already went thru the valves,...they were on the loose side as is,...I don't suspect seal issue because I'm getting good pull thru valve cover and little thru the catch can
