Were does the pivot ball for the Z-bar go on a 350 Buick? I see no hole for it on my 69 block and its getting ready to go in with a four gear here real soon.

    I'm not sbbuick

Is your motor the original 69 motor? some later model 350's didnt have the provision for the pivot ball as they werent offered with manual transmissions.

Its a 69 engine for sure. It looks like theres an area that could be drilled out, but isn't done from the factory. Its a flat area at the driver side rear.

That would be the place then. Not all blocks were drilled for the pivot ball. Some cranks arent machined for the pilot bushing either.

I'm good on the crank for the PB. So I guess I need to drill and tap my block?!?!

    Shums,
I had to do this a couple of times and have had absolutely no problem. It helps if you have a block that was already drilled so you can measure it to see just where the hole needs to be.If you don't have a drilled block I'll try to take some measurements from an engine I have and post it for youthis weekend.

At a glance it appears that none of my 350s are drilled. I would very much appreciate photos!

    sbbuick My driving scares people!

On my new block (in the car now), I had to not only drill and tap the hole, I had to first grind the block surface flat!

Luckily, I had my '68 block in the garage to go by for the location. If you've got the spot on the block, then at least you're not starting from zero.

    Sorry for the late reply.
Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about your conversion :)

    Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. Between you and Pat it seems that I'll get the info I need to avoid drilling into water passage's or something.

Andrew? I hope we havent been insulting by calling you Andy:Brow:. Get that thing out of storage and drive it up here this saturday night. Big cruise in at the Kmart on blanding blvd(hwy 21) from about 5:00 to whenever unless it rains. It'd only take an hour and a half. call me

    Hey David,

Funny I was just talking about you guys up there in Jax. Lemme check into this. I may be able to do it, but the Lark is in deep storage. Oil in the cylinders, lifted off the ground, covered, insurance and tags are expired too :(

I'll just drop the Z28 into 6th gear and idle up there at close to 30 MPG!

    TTYL,

    Andy, Andrew (it doesn't matter)

Seems the junk 350 I pulled out was the only one I had that was drilled for the pivot ball. I should be able to get my measurements from it. Next question.........The drilled block looks like 3/8 threads. The pivot ball I have looks like 1/2. Any problems drilling a hole this big?

Mine was 1/2 inch also. I just took my drill bit and stuck it into the hole and put a piece of tape on the drill so I didn't go too deep. When I tapped it I took my time and made sure it was straight. You should have no problems if you take your time.
