One of the greatest dangers of going to Good Guys is going into the swap meet area. As I was strolling along, I heard someone call my name. I turned around and that was when I saw this. I've always loved the rear window sail panels on these. It has a 310 V8, 350TH. Been in the same family since new. The seller's mom bought it, and had it until she passed away in 1998. Her name was Ruth, and I'm naming the car after her. My intention is to do a restoration on this. At this point, she needs new paint, seat covers, dash pad and steering wheel. And detailing. Everything works, including every instrument panel, interior light, A/C. In really good shape, she runs and drives nice. Peppier than I would have guessed too.
Nice find! I'm definitely jealous. I'm looking for a '66 Skylark myself. Just havent come across one I can afford right now.
Welcome to another Buick nut in OK!!!! Im in the Tulsa area Where are you? Love the blue on it! Mark Sheppard
Im in OKC. The car lived its entire life in Tulsa. Its going to be repainted in its original Blue Mist, which lighter than the blue on there now. Anyone know of a source for dash pads, or do you have to get these recovered? Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Is your car paint code F (Blue Mist) on the firewall tag? Color looks about right. Mine is the lighter Astro Blue, code D.
Isn't that a coinky dink? Looks awfully familiar to the eyeballs on another '66 that I know of.(see avatar)
I think your Uncle Don copied that idea from my '66! I first met Don at the '84 GS Nats when he brought a tired looking '66 GS with a 300 small block, and proceeded to break the rear. I had my own problems with a broken driveshaft. We were both fixing our cars in the hotel parking lot. He brought it back a few years later with a fresh paint job and a built Nailhead that ran in the 11's!:TU: He built a hell of a nice car. Has he had it out lately?
I second all the goods thoughts on your car. Beautiful color. Great looking car!! Thanks for sharing. 66'S RULE !!
Hahaha. Wish I could have been there to see all of that. He and I were talking the other day and we think we are going to try and make it to the GS Nats next year. Not sure if we are going to race or just watch, but the plans are to go none the less. Yes, the '66 has been out and about recently. Not in a couple weeks cause something is rattling loose underneath it and we gotta get under it and tighten everything back up. The poor thing sat for a few years without being started due to a fuel line and connection that went bad under the hood. The cool thing was once it was replaced, that Nailhead turned over a few times and fired off like it hadn't been sitting at all. That motor hasn't been torn down or freshened up since 1994 and still runs strong. We took it out down the street about a month ago and had it ditch to ditch burning up the redlines, lol. So much fun. OH, and he just added a Gear Vendors Overdrive to the ST400 in it. It's really cool. Motor turns at less than 3k at 70mph. about 2500 at 60-65 mph which is perfect for cruising. We are talking strongly about yanking the motor and tearing it down for a freshen up sometime soon since it has been almost 20 years. And believe me Walt, Don hasn't forgotten you. Everytime we start talking about Buicks, which is about every 5-10 mins if I am out there at his place, he is always bringing up his old buddy Walt and the trips to the Nats. PS. sorry to the OP for hi-jacking the thread. My bad.
It's had a repaint, and the clear has given up the ghost. A repaint is going to be necessary, but it won't need to be a frame-off. Yes, the paint code is F. Blue Mist is the same as Chevy's Marina Blue which some people may be more familiar with - a very popular color on Corvettes back then. It's somewhere between the color mine is now and yours.
