What oil filter are you running?

Does the oil filter have a missing or failed drainback valve?

Wix, napa gold, ac Delco or Bosch.
Only part number I remember off the top of my head is Bosch 3423, so whatever that cross references to the other brands I listed.

oil pressure oddly went up by about 10psi all around.

Ive confirmed that i have the white 60 psi spring in the pump, and had the adjustable regulator turned in a few turns. the valve inside isnt stuck, however i haven not looked at the valve behind the oil filter. im betting on the cam bearing being wiped, i do not recall if i used a ta bearing or not.
To get a baseline and for my own curiosity, ive installed the factory plain spring with no adjustment on the regulator.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Did you say what weight of oil you are running? sorry if I missed this.

A few dollars for an oil pressure sender, or if mechanical, few dollars for a new gauge/ plumbing.

Oil pressure dropping on one run, then higher on another could be several things. But it leans away from internal/engine, and makes me think indicator.

(Exception of the few things in the pump that could change)

But easier, cheaper to test/rule out indicator issues.

15w40. car is my daily and sees lots of highway use, 3000-4000rpm for 100 miles a day.

This is a daily driven car, and the oil pressure never drops. It's just low once it gets hot at idle, lower than it used to be by about 10-15psi. Cruise pressure is lower too, again by about 10-15psi. It used to idle above 10psi when the engine was fresh, now hot at idle off the highway, the light will stay on until i put it in park and it sits there for a few minutes and cools back off.
the gauge a newish summit branded one (in the three pack of volts, water, oil), and i trust is accurate. gauge reads below 5psi at idle, idiot light comes on. However, unlike my previous engine, there is no driver's side lifter tapping to be heard, so i think the engine is still quite salvageable, if there is anything wrong.

Why don’t you increase the oil Pressure with the regulator for the PSI you’re comfortable with? Isn’t that the whole point of having one that’s adjustable? Also driving as much as you do why not run a straight 30w.

Pressure regulator only affect MAX oil pressure, it has no effect on hot idle pressure.

did you ever do the oil mods to engine? if you going to run at 3-4 grand this should be done. go with synthetic and see if this runs it cooler or holds better pressure. I do Mobile 1 10-30 and mix in 2 qts 15-50 Mobile 1 for 6 qt system. Had 15-20 very hot and 55 at 3000 you need 50 here so adjust for that and don;t worry about idle pressure 50lbs+ at 3 grand is what is important.

I thought the regulator affected pressure across the board? I adjusted mine at idle and it brought my hot oil pressures up as well as the cold, and my maximum.?? I run at 50 cold and about 23 hot.

It does. 50lbs warm/ hot and 3000 rpm that is where we need to be 55 better, 70 at 6 grand.
and you better be lookin for 75-80 if you want to spin to 6800 lol

    It only affects max pressure.
Cold start it’s easy to achieve max pressure at 1500 rpm till everything warms up.

Could just be the sending unit. I'd try swapping it out before major surgery.

Isn't your low pressure the reason you did the new TA cover, then Underdogs cover in the 1st place?
You may have increased bearing clearances going on.....

The best oil gauge to use is a mechanical one and use the small braided steel line instead of the cheap plastic line that comes with it.

I’m totally confused by your statements, first you say pressure dropped by 10 lbs, then you say it went up 10 lbs all over.
    I think I your fine :D

Regulator does next to nothing. All it seems to do is increase cold oil pressure at idle. Does nothing for hot pressure.
