    Radiator hoses

I got one for you to check that happened to me. I have a very stout built 455 in my 70 stage 1 with under drive pulleys and when i was driving it down the road at 3000 rpm the same thing happened to me it would start to run hot around 195 and i have a 160 high flow thermostat in it and when i was driving it at a lower rpm it would stay at 160. But 3000 and above it started to heat up quick and the same thing when i made a 1/4 mile pass at the track. Well one day i was jetting the carb and was under the hood reving the motor up to 3500 and above and i looked over at my top radiator hose and it was collasping completely closed every time i reved it up and if i reved it up to 3000 and kept it at that rpm the hose would stay closed until i would lower the rpm to about 2200????? Well i installed a spring in the top hose and checked the bottom one and it already had one. After that the over heating problem went away and the car will not get over 170 in the hottest day of the summer or when driving down the road at even 4500 rpm. My car has 390 gears and a 38 over bore with about 13 to 1 compression. :TU:
