Hi All, I took the front fenders off my recently purchased 1970 gs 350 and noticed on the passenger body side a round hole and it appears to have a few screw holes around it. Is this a vent? I assume whatever belongs there is missing and wondering what the heck am i looking for? Thanks
My thoughts exactly. If it was an A/C car and has had the system removed. A picture would do wonders. It would be the hole that someone cut into the sheetmetal years ago to replace the blower motor the "easy way" too. Please post a picture.
Hi guys, Thanks for the response. Yes this is an A/C car. I will get a picture hopefully this weekend to post. Took the car to heated storage about 1 and half hours away The hole look like its suppose to be their or the did a hell of a job lol I would say its located above the air vent system half way up the body right near where the fender and door meet around. Wish I had a picture now but I will get one. thanks again.
Here is the pic of the hole along with a pic of my car i bought this summer:grin: I still think its a vent or something and the car is just missing it. Thoughts...
As Duane correctly guessed it is where one side of an accordian rubber boot mounts for cars with power windows, power door locks etc. The dimples (or holes) around the open hole are where the fasteners that pierce the ears of the boots attach. If it were set up there would also be a mirror image hole on the door side of the hinge.
I will have to look at the driver side. I really didnt notice. Do I just leave it alone or is there some kind of plug for it when its not used? Thanks
looks like the hole for the wiring for power accessiries to me. Duane is correct about a matching one on the drives side.
There were never any plugs. That hole was only drilled out on power window cars. Either car had power windows or someone drilled them out. If you look at a non-power car you will just see some dimples. I have converted cars and had to drill these holes with a hole saw.
Car had pdl and/or pw....believe it or not, I have seen several cars with manual windows and PDL......the only way to plug that is to verify if you have a matching hole in the door. If so, you can install the accordion boot or fabricate a plug from plastic. Look at the back of your door....you should see three dimples below the catch....if those are not drilled out or have screws in them....you car had PW only and no PDL.
well i went and saw the car yesterday and check it out. so here is what i found out: Driver side - no hole driver door - 3 dimples not drilled or no screws passenger side - hole passenger door - 3 dimples not drilled or no screws Factory mistake?
More likely someone drilled for power and had a change of heart. I doubt factory would leave it open. Would be a huge problem with water entry, mice etc. I know car is not with you but if you could measure hole it might narrow it down. Factory hole in body was pretty big. About 3" I think but I can get exact if you want it.
I don't understand your thought about replacing the doors. A hole exists on the body but only on one side. Dave my guess is around 2.5 to 3 inches. I will measure it the next time I go up to work on the car in a couple of weeks.
Gary, I took a quick eyeball measurement and factory hole in the body and it appears to be 2 3/8". Do not drill a car based on this measurement as it was quick check and door was in the way. Also are your small holes above and below the hole punched? These were fir the plastic boot retainers.
