Within the past couple of months my electric garage door opener, which I have had for about 10 years, began blowing out light bulbs for no reason. I put a new bulb in, it works for a couple of weeks and then blows out. Any ideas or suggestions about what might be wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Sorry Randy, just kidding.
We had a 300 watt bulb in our garage when we moved in, it lasted four years after that.
Since then.........1 year we've put three more in its place. Dont use them any more or less than before, just seem to be crappy bulbs.

    Good luck ,
    D.

Dime store electrical knowledge here... Could the motor in the garage door opener be starting to sieze? If it was it could be drawing more power and blowing the light bulb... i guess, i really have no idea.

Light bulbs do not like vibrations. Does the unit vibrate much when opening or closing the door ? :Do No:

Unheated garage ? If so put in a "rough" service bulb . Works much better in all outdoor and unheated garages and out buildings . :Smarty: :pp

Appliance bulbs work also ... :pp

Cold weather is hard on bulbs .. :pp

    Hey Guys

Thanks for the replies. Based on your suggestions my guess is that there may be too much vibration during operation of the opener. I will get a heavy duty work bulb and try that first. if that doesn't work I will try the other suggestions until I get it fixed. Thanks again to all.
