I am trying to order some replacement rubber for underneath my hood and it's somewhat confusing. Which rubber bumper's do I need from the Year 1 Catalog for a 72 Skylark? There are several types listed for 68-72 so I want to order the right parts. I don't have access to my car right now to look so any help would be appreciated. I'm also wondering how many door bumper pieces there are? They are sold as a pair. Is that one for each door or a pair for each door. Thanks!

For the doors they take two each, total of four. GM still sells them as well I believe (YO will resell you GM parts-but sorry dont have p/n handy)

On the hood bumpers, I assume you mean the ones on the side?? There were two styles, depending on plant and date. They are the same thickness so I guess it depends what your car came with. There are also the bumpers at the front of the hood (3), again GM sells those too and then there is one more right at the back in the center, looks like a thick trunklid bumper but the hole is larger and I have not found a source for those yet....

    Hope that helps.

Don't mean to hijack the thread...

But, I too have a hood bumper question.

I need 2 sets of REAR hood bumpers for my 71 GS and 70 Skylark. They are the adjustable type. I want factory type bumpers, not generic knock-offs. Too many to chose from. Which ones are correct and nice? Thanks...

Are you talking about the outboard ones that set the hood height and have a nut on the bottom that tightens to the cowl?? They are really nothing more than a stove bolt with a nut and rubber coating on the head. I don't know anyone who sells them, I blasted and replated my originals then put a new rubber coating on with tool dip. See my website.

These ones are critical, do NOT skimp or leave off. They prevent the hood from coming into the passenger compartment in a serious front end crash.

    Tim,

I tried the rubber dip trick, but it did not work well for me. I just want the real deal.

There are lots of different brands. Get it form an industrial house, much thicker and better stuff than local hardware stores. I don't know where you can buy the fittings new.

If you find them make sure to post it.
