After trying out a few different types of air cleaner elements to no avail I am forced to either sawzall a hole in my stock hood and graft on some sort of scoop or else look at the cowl hoods. I'm trying to keep the $$$$$ to a minimum saving the cash for under the hood. Can you guys that have done so post up some pics of your scoops and how you affixed it to your hood? I'm kinda bummed I was hoping to keep my Regal looking pretty stock from the outside.

just get a real cowl hood. Be lucky they make one for the regal. It'll be less work and less heartache in the longrun. I've had 2 different cowl hoodscoops on my hood on my 67 and they were nothing but trouble, both cracked off. The first plastic one was fiberglassed on and the second metal one was welded on (the bondo around it cracked eventually).

    Or just go stage 2!

I also have a stock hood with a cowl moulded into it. I have also had problems with cracking and the hood is heavy because of the bondo/? that was used to make it look slick.

The hood in my avatar was a Glasstek 4" cowl induction hood.I chose to get
rid of it because I got sick of the Monte Carlo references. I opted for
something more Buick like. Anyway the Glasstek hood is one piece. Some
    minor trimming is required.

Thats what I was hoping for in maybe a GN or T-Type hood with the bubble, but those are only cosmetic so they don't help me. So what did you go with to keep it Buick looking?

I say go with the fiberglass cowl hood for your Regal. I have one on my other Regal and the cowl is only about 2 1/2" tall and I think it really goes good with the Regal lines. The only reason I don't like the 4" fiberglass cowl hoods is they don't flow with the Regal lines and the only thing you seem to see is the big cowl portion of the hood and not notice the rest of the car. Just my additional two cents worth.

Thanks Monkey, I was thinking along the same lines, pun intended:laugh:, as you. I was really hoping a GN type hood woulda worked but the low profile cowl is next in line I think.

I opted the cheap route I spent less than a 100 bucks. I ordered a cowl insert took a cut off wheel cut out the whole center of the hood used about 20 plus rivets and some old bondo i had and it worked out great its been on my car for about 4 yrs only prob its starting to crack at front of hood but that probably because the hood would release in high gear and flex. Jus glad it didnt shoot thru tha window. It was so simple I did it on another car it been on there 2yrs Its no secret the insert will eventually crack but if you cant afford to drop ova 400 bucks or your just cheap like me. the cowl insert is a great alternitive

Have you tried getting a carb base from a Cadi or Toro, they have bases with a lot of negetive offset and let the cleaner sit lower. I am with you on the stock look, I had a cowl hood on my car and just didn't like the look and went back to the stock hood. I used a base off of some ford product that sat down and cobbled a cleaner. Nothing like a stock looking Regal running down race cars.

Mine's seriously low buck. I traded some stuff for an 82ish Ford Mustang hoodscoop. I cut the hood out and bolted it on. I know a cowl is better, but I had to make do.

lilbowtie, I will look for one. Man your before and after pics really show what a difference the cowl hood makes. Nothing against em I just want a stock non assuming look.

Oh yeah, I read on another board a guy who had my same issue used pantyhose for an air filter!

www.laureneng.com I did a low buck eazy install job like floydsbuick only with a scoop from lauren. As you can see from floyds no bondo simple clean cheap. Maybe not best but no bondo simple clean cheap is good. Under Grand National pg 36 lex-14a is the one I got. $149. At the time I think it was only $129.
