HI all, we'll I thought I was getting better at the electrical thing but got bitten and fried my ignition switch now I'm twice shy. So what would be the best place to get the 12 volts for my voltage gauge on my 70 Skylark? A certain color wire off the ignition switch? Looked at my chassis manual maybe the orange or pink for key in run readings?

It should come from a switched source. Seems like there is a switched spade lug on the fuse panel, maybe in the lower left corner.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

12 volt source 10 amp on the ignition side from the fuse box to trigger a relay then to voltmeter.

On my 1964, this is sourced for the horn relay junction block (large 12v positive) that feeds multiple heavy amp draw needs.

Also make sure you have good ground straps from dashboard to frame and to battery negative terminal.

(I have added many braided ground straps to several locations as the frame/body/devices over many years time, lose good ground pathing)

Poor grounding is a big issue with proper electrical operation.
